Re: Ace ?

I just think it's quite cool that the first US ace since Vietnam was flying a Harrier, rather than one of these new fangled F-15s or some other bolshy fast pointy thing. But Harriers are fast, and nowadays they are also pointy? He he...I'd like to think it just sat in the hover behind ...

Pretty certain its been 9am local time when the airfield opens the last two years although something slipped out just before the last couple of departure days, that ugly Airbus helicopter in 2022 IIRC.
9am local is 8am UTC/GMT.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Sarcasm woosh haha! Apart from a few flypasts and a landing, what do you expect from an airborne command and control center? A few rolls; maybe a loop...? <<< That's sarcasm! That tightly flown circuit for an aircraft that is a version of the 747 was one of the many highlights of that show for me. ...

RIAT cannot even get German Navy stuff this year! Great catch.
Maybe because this is earlier in the year then RIAT. The deliveries of the German Orions to Portugal are taking place already.

Did they have two demo pilots between '88 and '96 or is that list incorrect? To add a bit more info: in the early 2000s "John"'s full name was John Vandenbosch, "Mickey" was Mickey Artigues and "Mitch" was Mitch Beulen. About the who is the best a few maybe interesting ...

Looks like the Swedish Air Force SK60 demo will also be retired this season with the type being WFS in June.
There is always the SWAFHF. They have used an Sk60 earlier as a support aircraft (the first time they appeared at Volkel).

Science Museum Wroughton

Seen this today via twitter, having a building demolished might not be the most reasonable reason to open a new topic, but the article also mentions that this was needed to have this site opening after years of being closed. Opening should now be planned for later this year. Maybe for some people a ...

Re: 'The face of things to come'

As much as every country replace their fighters with F-35s, a lot of countries are replacing/have replaced their C-130s with the likes of A400, C-27, that Embraer cargo/tanker aircraft and probably a few others that don't spring to my mind (wasn't there a Japanese built aircraft next to the Embraer ...

And if another aircraft intervenes in the demo area for a show in which this one is flying and the only way to prevent a mid air collission is to slam the nozzles in the down position, what would the CAA say? Great job preventing a possible crash! or You are only allowed to perform conventional flig...

Not sure if it has taken part in the actual airlift itself. I always thought it was a Dakota that was representing the type as Rosinenbomber. I would imagine if it really was a veteran of the airlift, RIAT would have gone to the max to get it at Fairford in '98 (given that Paul Bowen was still very ...

What makes you think a civilian owned Harrier would be allowed in formation with the latest bit of expensive tech owned by the UK Armed Forces? Even then, once you had your shot, then what? Personally I thought it was the worst parking of aircraft in the loop I can recall this year, with the Harriers Phantom and Fitter all too head on to the barrier. They need a small angle and it also makes them more friendly to the light at the start and end of the day, we are trying to watch the fl...
