Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
The 717, well what is left of it has finally left Kemble and gone to a new home in Worcestershire. ASI must be glad to see the back of it at last. Maybe now UKHAT might finally furnish us all with details on how this fits in with preserving UK built airframes. Now the 717 is sorted, presumably atte...

Re: Accident at Haneda
Regarding luggage in overhead compartments, can these compartments not be automatically locked en masse by the crew when an airliner is coming in to land or approaching any other scenario where luggage might fall out, etc.?
Apologies if I’m saying or asking something completely stupid.

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
You’re meant to contact the Charity Commission before you “do something different with the funds”. I can’t imagine the Commission will be too bothered; the amounts involved are hardly Captain Tom.

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
From the start I always had the impression that UKHAT was run by a teenager with an over active imagination from his bedroom. In the last 18 months I have been involved in a very small way with the Blackbushe Heritage Trust. In that time it has gone from zero to owning a Vickers Viking and bringing...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
After extensive Google usage (very nearly 20 seconds!) I can confirm I now know the following: The Boeing 717 is an American five-abreast single-aisle airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The twin-engine airliner was developed for the 100-seat market and originally marketed by McDonnel...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
I’m not UKHAT’s biggest fan by a long shot, as my posts in this thread illustrate, but I will say this, RJPotts - you’re in the classic territory of actually doing them a favour. If you wanted my advice, I’d say take it easy. Less is more. I think their gofleeceme page shows that they certainly do ...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
Oh its a museum again is it, a few weeks ago this lot were sniffing around various classic jet owners and restoration groups, offering (unsolicited and unwanted) assistance. As one might have assumed none of the groups and projects approached wished to take up the offer. No doubt it will be somethi...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
I don’t bear them any ill will, good luck to them and all that, but as someone who has been involved in aircraft preservation for over 30 years, I would much prefer if their name was a bit more representative of who they actually are. Their grand-sounding title and all encompassing aims gives the im...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
Just when we all hoped UKHAT had finally learnt its lesson no here we go again, there now looking at the cockpit of a stored MD80 at Gatwick and doing the usual MO of social media polls asking if anyone would support them in preserving it. I’m not sure how acquiring an MD-80 cockpit would have alig...

Latest on XH558’s relocation from this afternoon’s VTST monthly newsletter: XH558’s Relocation We know that you are all waiting to hear news of XH558’s new home and we are sorry that we’re not yet in a position to announce this. We understand there are many questions supporters have that we aren’t a...

Re: Worst enthusiast behaviour you've seen?
Nothing compares to the guy many years ago on a crowded fence line at a North Weald Fighter Meet who emptied his guts with the most disgusting fart I’ve ever smelt. I hate to think what he’d been eating, but I got the sense it hadn’t been cooked properly. No one knew who it was as everyone shifted, ...

Re: Worst enthusiast behaviour you've seen?
I’m not really bothered by it, but I suppose the other thing I see weirdly regularly is odd people who shout abuse at you from cars for daring to have and enjoy a hobby; like… as if they don’t hold a season ticket for their local club, and religiously go and watch their League 2 side get hammered i...

[quote=Gt5500 post_id=934879 time=1675349018 user_id=24977] I keep hearing that the south doesn't need any more airports, that there's more to this country than London yet I'm curious to know why the airports in the north have struggled or closed down if they ...

Re: Cosford changes
I’ve just returned from a trip to the States. Ticked the Udvar-Hazy Center off my bucket list. It doesn’t have much in it other than the aircraft - no paddling pools or interactive nonsense - and it was packed (annoyingly so from my perspective!). On a Thursday. There was even a queue outside at 10...

https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/news/regional-news/gallery/pictures-riat-vulcan-bombers-final-7844422 Spectators waited for hours, dodging large puddles and rain showers, to hear the distintive high-pitched noise of the bomber's engines firing, with emergency services on standby to cool-off t...

Re: Cosford changes
I also wonder whether the RAFM in Hendon or Cosford “need” to change to the same extent other museums who depend (in whole or in part) on revenue do. The RAFM is free to the public, notwithstanding parking at Cosford (not sure about Hendon). They don’t have the same commercial pressures private mus...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight
Just for one second let's pretend approval is given to fly 558 into Scampton, the aircrew agree to do it and the funds for said flight are found. Then what you have is a Vulcan stuck at Scampton an airfield that unless something changes will soon be no more, and the owners of whatever ends up becom...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight
Its being dismantled and taken out by road.. Work starts in March and they have to be out/everything offsite by the 23rd June, including the Canberra. Destination unknown. "Destination unknown.".... Does this mean that VTST are keeping it to themselves for the moment, or don't they know y...

Re: UK Heritage Aviation Trust
I have to say I have been accused of being a UKHAT troll I pointed out on Twitter that a photograph was the same as the one on their fund raiser when it was stated to have been taken that day. After a few abusive tweets they finally agreed it was the same. Would have been simpler to just say sorry ...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight
The biggest “killer” in the accounts is that the Vulcan is valued at £685,716 and the Canberra at £60,859. If those turns into scrap value in a few months those accounts are scrap too! I think they’re very much paper values, they don’t have any particular relevance to the solvency of the operation....
