Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
According to FRIAT write up, No flying bulls this year due to cost vs themes, also USAF aircraft are not allowed to cross into Europe just for an airshow, so any US based fast jet is very unlikely :/ From someone that knows very little about the way the US air force is structured and works how come...

You're right, obviously, but by the same token every aircraft announced from now on will 'bulk it up' too, surely

Don't want to copy all the other posts, but regarding the point about a Lockheed F-16 display - I always thought manufacturers displays were about promoting a given aircraft from a sales POV. Is the F-16 even built new anymore?

Re: Tommy in Japan - (Super heavy, sorry!)
These are splendid Tommy, thanks for sharing them all. Didn't even realise they flew the Osprey! The US finally relenting, or is Japan the only other country that wants it? As other have said, it has to be one of the most varied air arms in the world - and the schemes are awesome, especially the agg...

Happened at Fairford in 2008, OK the show never went ahead, but a Pakistan Navy P-3 and the Indian Sarangs were both present.

Re: Ace ?
Taking out a drone could totally be seen as a combat kill, especially if it's in a military showdown where every move matters. But let's be real, is it as big a deal as bringing down a manned aircraft? If it was in the scenario you describe above then I would say yes, because what you are describin...

Where did they say that? Their FB has been quiet for over a year, same with their Instagram. Their website seems to expired and their Twitter hasn't said anything since the post about the formation with the Reds last month. Smoke signals? Carrier pigeon? Word of mouth? Either way, it would be helpf...

No such thing as overly cautious! To be honest, it is very much like the kind of email address that you'd usually run a mile from - quite rightly too - so I expect quite a few people will have deleted it without reading. Especially as (like me) it will likely have gone into your spam folder.

Re: RIAT E-mails
I *think* it's legit. The company the email is from appear to be some sort of media communication setup so my guess is DBH are using them for this kind of communications. If you hover over the links, they too appear genuine, so this one at least seems like it is from and about RIAT.

Can someone explain why the front wheel and the mental gun at the front are both off centre? Is it just because they get in each other's way?

Re: Dubai Air Show 2023 DAS23
Great shots! As has already been noted, having Russia and the US at an airshow must be nigh on unique to here at the present time (were the Russians there on static too?), but also Pakistan and India sharing an airshow can't be exactly common!

Brazilian E390 left Brize Earlier and now heading south past the Portuguese coast. Meant to post earlier when it was closer to home but got sidetracked. It seemed to very deliberately bypass Fairford shortly after leaving Brize - took a long curve to the north - but I don't know why that would be un...

Yes to the Slovenian PC-9, a beautiful display (although I guess that depends in the pilot as much as anything, so hopefully it's either the same one or an equally good one this year.

Finally, his ID badge that he wore whilst onboard. It seems that he (or someone else) added the PO (for Petty Officer, his temporary rank) with a pin or similar. If anyone has any idea what the AI stands for I'd be grateful. American Identity?? The 'Meth' is for Methodist. Thanks for looking. https:...

And that's it. He stopped writing in this journal on the 26th. Not that much detail in a lot of the posts, but as someone who studied and has a love for history, that tells us almost as much about the personal experience of WW2 as the days when lots happened. Obviously I am biased but to me it's a f...

Monday June 19th: Moved into Southampton docks in the evening, about 1900hrs. Went ashore for a while to inquire about train home. Decided it wasn't worth losing ship. Got back to hear we were loaded and ready to sail. Good job I didn't go home. Tuesday June 20th: Remained in Solent all day waiting ...
