Re: The UKAR politics thread

Labour MP Dawn Butler asked to leave HOC for calling PM a liar. https://www.aol.co.uk/news/labour-mp-ordered-leave-commons-151017280.html As she said, it's so so ridiculous that you can't call out the liar, but the liar can sit there and be, in effect, immune from being accused of lying whilst the ...

Re: Historic Culture?

You see it with listed homes all the time - generation after generation have added bits, lopped bits off, generally added to the story of the building, then someone wants to put double glazing in in the 21st century and gets told they can't. It just seems a bit nonsensical to me, so I thought I wou...

Re: Historic Culture?

Of course Everton's Stadium is being singled out as the most high profile example. I guess (I don't know) if something culturally significant is being pulled down to make way for a faceless office block then they've got a point. But even then, you look at somewhere like the Gherkin or Canary Wharf i...

Re: Historic Culture?

Good point, and I very much get it, but how do you get "the legacy of tangible and intangible heritage assets of a group or society that is inherited from past generations" without progress and new stuff? Where will it be for future generations if we put barriers in place do much now?

Historic Culture?

With the news that Liverpool is to be stripped of it's UNESCO world heritage status, I got thinking... At what point to you decide that historic buildings become historic? Is it the length of time they've been there (Shakespeare's house, the Tower of London for example)? Is it the importance of the ...

Re: RIAT 2022 Participation and Discussion chat

That’s perhaps the saddest part of 21’s cancellation. I felt it was an occasion to really pull off an event as big as the RAF’s 100th, but that boat has sailed. Next years themes? Simulator based training and drone tech? Hopefully with more success than the RAF100... Well that would indeed make it ...

In certain situations though, they (masks) absolutely need to go. At school at the moment I wear one walking on my own down the corridor at 7 in the morning (actually I don't, but in theory I'm meant to), don't wear one to teach 30 little ones, put it back on to walk those 30 children to lunch - aga...

Re: The Euro 2020 (in 2021) Thread

Only criticism I would level at Southgate would be bringing Sancho and Rashford on purely to take a penalty. Sterling, Grelish, Walker etc...all had been on and got themselves absorbed into the game. I just wonder if bringing those two on for 15 or even 10 minutes might have got them slightly more i...

Re: The Euro 2020 (in 2021) Thread

The ref let a lot go last night. Given where Saka was and the way the attack was going I think a yellow was all but inevitable to be honest. It looked so much worse because it was round his neck. Had it been on his waist the result would have been the same but I doubt we'd be discussing it. Italy ce...

Re: The Euro 2020 (in 2021) Thread

It's a way of saying that when England come up against a decent team, in a major tournament, they can't get the job done. Rubbish. They have played decent teams in this tournament and beat them. They lost narrowly tonight on a penalty shoot out to a couple of great saves. England have a lot to be p...

Re: The Euro 2020 (in 2021) Thread

Totally disagree. I thought England played really well last night. Pickford was excellent and the fact that the only real defensive error came from a striker who was deep in the opponent's half says something. England may not have set the tournament alight, but they've won 3out of 4 games and haven'...

Loved looking through these, thanks guys πŸ‘πŸ» So many lovely shots - honourable mentions to John's XH558 shadow, Alistair's traction engine and the late entries from Tom and Nick, which I love.
