Re: Women viewed as ‘property’ in Red Arrows amid culture of male entitlement, RAF admits

I suppose the answer to the above depends on to what degree 'being a Red' further inflates the average male fighter pilot's ego.

Last night when they mentioned the sole-ever female Red Arrows pilot I was expecting them to trot out that particular little scandal too, but they didn't.

Re: Women viewed as ‘property’ in Red Arrows amid culture of male entitlement, RAF admits

I don't know about a permanent disbanding- though those aircraft are not going to last forever- but it was interesting to hear in the news report that grounding them for a year had been considered. Hell of a disruption to the flying currency, though. I've worked in a similarly male dominated environ...

Re: Women viewed as ‘property’ in Red Arrows amid culture of male entitlement, RAF admits

I think it would have been far more helpful to have had the report published unredacted- for it to be made public who was sanctioned, how, and for what.

One wonders who is now policing the culture within the RAFAT, and if it has truly changed.

Most of the levers are clearly bogus but the quadrant appears to be a real part from something.

Mythical South African wheels... being collected by the RAF BBMF, just outside Coventry.
Were the wheels they purchased from you originally SAAF? Or, maybe they are talking about more wheels obtained since yours..?

Re: Disband BBMF?

The fact that nowhere in your small-minded diatribe do you mention commemoration or remembrance of the people the BBMF exists to honour speaks volumes. They are not just an 'airshow act provider', as you must surely know- which leads me to wonder if this is just trolling clickbait for the sake of it...

Just wish I was old enough to remember more of the Fighter Meet Airshows my Dad took me to in the late 80's / early 90's... the airfield attack scenarios stick in my mind, but the rest is hazy. That's a good point actually...even the basic old RAF 'At Home' days would have had some great content in...

Re: Best Airshow That You Have Attended?

I enjoyed the final Great Warbirds at Wroughton, and there was a particularly jolly Badminton air day around that period too- a lovely sweet tree-lined airstrip which served to make the Lancaster look all the bigger when she appeared.

Re: Red Arrows in 2019

So it's not as if people will really miss anything, is it? YOU might not think so, but the wider, general airshow going public adores them. Indeed to many, they ARE an airshow. They also serve as a symbol of something for this country to be proud of at occasions such as Royal flypasts and the like....

I'd sooner take a positive attitude to any new aviation documentary appearing on one of the main channels, seeing how few there usually are. And as it turns out, this was truly behind the scenes, not blighted by rubbish music or awful OTT commentary style, warts and all (Accidents aside, I don't thi...

Re: RAFAT: In decline?

I don't think the Reds are in a decline at all- they do what they do very well, year in year out, and the general public love them; what a smaller proportion of more die-hard online enthusiasts think or want is fairly immaterial. But, I do fear that we may be into the last years of having the team a...

It was restored to flight, not restored to original/museum condition. It’s internally got some modern wiring, modern electrics , modern instruments and modern radio equipment. Must admit, for all that it's on my only real opportunity to see my beloved Lancaster each year and of course it's a free show, the crowds, very distant display line and fairly dull content just make it not worth bothering anymore.
