Ah - can't see those (maybe deleted or permissions) but a couple of photos on the Alrewas group page...https://www.facebook.com/groups/518662041562695

Re: Low level MC-130 and CV-22

They came direct over mine on approach to the NMA - silly feet still. Have seen a comment on local FB page as to "why was one towing the other". Can't decide if it was serious or tongue in cheek!

Re: Air Shows 2024

It would be interesting to understand the commercial and other drivers behind this - is there a view that longer term airshows for the collection are going to become unviable? It does seem a very abrupt change of approach and risks throwing the baby out with the bath water. Or perhaps they have empl...

Old Warden - Best of British

Hi, an early Father's Day treat with my son. Glad we went even though the weather was more cloud than sun (Metoffice forecast spot on, BBC way off the mark), some atmospheric shots and also enjoyed putting the camera down and soaking up the unique OW atmosphere... 1) Harvard https://live.staticflick...

Gorgeous light on the Gladiator - managed a simlar (but not quite so good) shot. Also noticed the Elf was missing a panel / hatch on return...seemed to disappear sometime after the bunting formation split...

Re: Wellesbourne Vulcan incident

To echo some earlier posts, many many years ago I had the throttle stick open on my lowly Ford Escort, on the Hog's Back just past the hotel. Immediate reaction was to declutch - cue engine revs going off the scale - so quickly re-engaged said clutch. Meanwhile, speed was (very gradually but inexora...

Interesting pics - any idea why there's a radiation warning sign? Luminous paint on the dials maybe?

That Slingsby shot could be a Ladybird book illustration or similar (meant as a compliment btw!)

Birmingham's Games

Spent a lovely evening with my better half taking in the busy but welcoming Commonwealth Games atmosphere around the city centre. How the city centre has been transformed from the run down dereliction of my childhood back in the 1970's...in almost all respects for the better. Camera technology has m...

Third Typhoon shot - just wow - blue sky can hold a lot of moisture it seems (presumably the reason for the wingtip contrails on the Reds, unless they've added some new smoke outlets...)

My Fly Navy

Despite the slightly dodgy (but very accurate) forecast, am glad I made the last minute decision to break my post-covid OW duck. The light and conditions were challenging for the limited capabilities of both photographer and equipment at times. I tried using an ND filter for the first time to give r...

Re: July 3rd - Fly Navy

Like a number of previous posters, this was my first post-Covid OW too, and the first one on my own (teenage son is no longer teenage or living at home). Aimed to arrive around 11 to 1130, having only just made the decision first thing Sunday morning to go. I'm around a 90 minute drive away. This is...

Re: Topic of the week #12: Your best day out

September 7th 2014 - having been an occasional Airshow visitor (Farnboro, RIAT, Abingdon '90 - memorable but not for good reasons!, Cosford etc) - with my 14 year old son in tow, we discovered Old Warden and the Shuttleworth collection. Thanks in no small measure to this forum. Since that memorable ...

Re: To SLR or not SLR?

Thanks all - really appreciate the input and welcome any more thoughts / ideas. Lots to think about - including whether I need to rethink the budget - I could go up another £1-2k if I can justify the expense (to myself, thankfully no-one else!). Ultimately the FZ1000 has been a really good compromis...

Re: To SLR or not SLR?

Thx - I'm definitely looking for hand held - is the 100-400 that you use the f5.6/f8, which looks fairly manageable, or the f4.5-5.6 which looks a bit much for hand held (and also a lot more expensive!)
