Re: US trip costs

As above, but avoid paying the car hire company a daily rate for excess waiver by getting a policy at home to cover what you need - worldwide/single trip/annual etc. Also I use TomTom on my phone - it is only £12.99 a year, way cheaper than car hire company rates and always up to date maps. No data ...

Re: Australian War Memorial, Canberra, 2009

Very nice. I was there last month and thought it was excellent - we only popped in for a look but stayed most of the afternoon. There are some really good Peter Jackson audio visual shows now, which may have been added since your visit. Most definitely worth a visit.

500ft altitude for all ex-military jet aerobatic moves- This I kind of get the point of and I think even pre Shoreham this was the case for many displays the Hunter was meant to enter its loop at 500ft That is not a new proposal, it is the position now and has been for a couple of years, and only f...

Don't just go by the emails - check your 'manage my booking' to see whether it is cancelled. Apparently a lot of emails have gone out 'in error'.

Re: Display line distance

Everyone is kind of right in parts. Where the crowd line is fixed, the tide makes no difference to the display line . At Southport, where the crowd line is the fence, the tide can (and does) come in and out without affecting the display line. The show date is determined by the high tide not being so...

Re: Rafale solo display mach loop monday june 10th

There's a bit of confusion over terminology here - it isn't a 'flight plan' issue but a permission one. Woody has it about right in that only UK mil, and UK-based foreign mil, have standing approval to use the UKLFS. For other mil it is on a reciprocal basis, or within a standing agreement or on app...

It doesn't serve any purpose on a forum intended for sharing photos - if the "solution" is that only you can see them, you might as well leave them on your hard drive and save yourself the bother of uploading pics, installing chrome extensions and apps. The add-ons let anyone viewing the ...

P.S Can anyone tell me why the crash barrier went up Sunday afternoon? Martin I guess it is at the discretion of whoever is in charge of the control tower. It might have been up on Saturday, but I don't recall. I've seen it up at RAF Scampton when the Reds are operating and it might be standard pro...

Re: Abandoned Toyota Dealership, Nicosia, Cyprus

I've done that walk through the green line in Nicosia. I think the story is that they were at a Toyota dealership in Famagusta when the Turks invaded, and were hurriedly moved to Nicosia for safety - only to end up within in the green line and therefore untouchable. Had they remained in Famagusta th...

Re: Notam query

Are you trying those on google maps? It is probably because those coordinates are degrees and minutes, whereas google maps uses degrees and decimals of degrees.

The decimal version of those coords is 55.535167 -2.839, which puts it near Selkirk.

Re: Term-time school holidays

Tricky one this. Should parents be able to take their children out of school when they feel it necessary? The Supreme Court have made their decision and said, no, they don't. Is this saying that children can never be taken out of school - or just not without the headteacher's permission? On the oth...

This is not another increase, but the second phase of the original increase, which was changed from the original planned single hike, to become a phased increase over 3 years. It was phased so as to reduce the impact of a single large rise. So actually, the benefit was that this year's charges were ...

trust me on the context please, I just need the command , if there is one (I suspected we may drift) You might need to be more specific - I guess you mean military pilot training? Even then, it may vary by nationality or air arm, but in UK military terms it is JUMP. EMERGENCY CODEWORDS / MEANING / ...

Generally, not on Friday. The static area is usually confined to the area north of runway 05 and west of runway 13 - on the ASPs either side of the Lufthansa hangar (which is marked on google maps). It is not close to the military hangars or the terminal building. You would see scheduled civil traff...
