Re: Dates on war memorials?

My understanding is that WW1 didn't actually legally end until an act of Parliament made it so, hence 1921. After WW2 the CWGC decided to have a similar equitable period of time. It also of course gave time for people who died of wounds etc to be treated as war casualties.

Re: Football

I'd be interested to know what the rules as they currently stand say about a season that isn't completed. I'm an Arsenal fan, for us I think it's largely irrelevant but I think Liverpool deserve the title. However if they don't abide scrupulously by the rules as they currently stand it will be open ...

Re: 2019 General Election

The latest national polls put the Libs at 17% and falling vs 41% on this site (vs 8% and 7% at the last two elections). Would anyone from the 41% care to throw their hat in the ring and make a prediction for the election result? I'm going to vote Lib but am fully aware it will have nil effect in my...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

I voted remain, partly because I thought that a tidy exit was never going to be achievable, hence I'm not that surprised about current events. I was about 60-40 in favour of remain, so there were elements of the leave campaign that I sympathised with. I know that many of my friends voted out, I don'...

Re: Is it time to disband the RAF?

I don't agree ref the F35s, why are the UKs F35s being based at Marham? RAF 100 is also not low key, it has always been the case that April 1 would be relatively low key because it is Easter Sunday. The big events are in 100 days time.

Re: RAF100

Anyone heard if there will be any marking of the day on April 1st, 100 years to the day that the RAF was formed? Didn't know if there were any events planned for the actual 'birthday' as it were. expects jokes about the date obviously... Easter though... that's always been an issue with RAF 100...

When he flew with 142 Sqn, it wasn't part of Bomber Command. Therefore he isn't eligible. The Bomber Command Clasp was created as a vote winner, it has nothing to do with whether or not it was fair. If the system was fair, people like this chap would be able to get a 'Mediterranean Air Force' clasp,...

Re: The BBC2 RAF Display programmes

So a single aircraft display sequence merits being described as a 'display team' now, 10 years and more ago the BBC couldn't shaken a stick at all the 'display teams'. I've said it before and I'll post it here again, the British have changed from being known for their classic under statements, now ...

The 55,573 figure is wrong, unfortunately it has now become so ingrained that it is difficult to get anyone to believe anything else... So what's the correct figure? Best calculation I have seen is 57,205. (Bomber Command Losses Vol 8, page 483) The 55,573 figure comes from the official history. Th...

Moving up from a Sony A330

Afternoon all, I currently have a an Alpha A330 paired with a Sigma APO 70-300 lens. I've had it for about 5 years, it feels like it is now holding me back, so I want to move on. The only other lens I use on the camera is a portrait F1.8, 50mm (SAL50F18) I've got a budget of about £1500 tops, so was...
