Re: Interesting Internet (Historic Aviation)

Apparently these are commercial Avon gas turbines, not repurposed ex-Lightning engines. https://www.rolls-royce.com/media/press-releases-archive/yr-2009/260309-avon-upgrades.aspx I emailed National Gas seeking clarification. TBH was not expecting a reply, but, surprise ! They do confirm that the Av...

Re: Interesting Internet (Historic Aviation)

Fascinated to read, engines from Lightnings (presumably Avons) are still in use today, as compressors for the UK gas distribution network. Apparently 68 in service. Now up for replacement, but a very good innings ! https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/01/14/britains-gas-network-using-engines-19...

Re: XH135 Canberra PR9 to move?

From the linked page, "The disposal of XH135 at Kemble is a given, it cannot be kept at Kemble. It must go no later than June 2022" This is disappointing - I was hoping Kemble might evolve into a broader collection of historic aircraft, in some way a successor to Bruntingthorpe. Does it ra...

If I walk through the gates at Fairford next July I will be elated, whatever turns up. Keep going Peter, RIAT is so much more than just an airshow and means the world to so very many of us.
Seconded.

Personally I think the team at Bruntingthorpe (owner + volunteers) do a fantastic job at keeping these aircraft running and accessible to the public on open days and Sundays. They deserve our full support. I have no problem at all with the £20 ticket price and I have a high level of confidence that ...
