Re: Newark Air Museum Aeroboot / Aerojumbles 2020

In fairness, the weather forecast looks like it might have scuppered it anyway had Covid not done so! Hard to concentrate on haggling for aircraft parts when you're trying to prevent your bacon butty from being either rained on or blown out of your hand!!

BTW, shouldn't Foxy Dave be called Basil?
Ours is not to rename, ours is only to kidnap and use for extortion purposes!

Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

A Monday morning off work. I could have had a lie in, but the seagulls had other ideas so no, no lie in for me. Not that I'm complaining for once because it meant I chanced upon a B-52 passing the window, a rare site for Yorkshire! https://i.postimg.cc/VkGL7v8j/079.jpg Anyhow, I guess I best stick t...

NOT Elvington.

Speaking with the owner of the site yesterday, he was very hopeful and reckoned to have a couple of bidders with the money, the means and the Cunning Plans to rehome her.

Well another weekend came.... and went.... But we were at the jet today, so have your weekly fix of Meteor doings! My Meteor week started the other day when a parcel arrived from Max Blood. Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

I have no idea what it was for (being a "rigger") but the port lower intake on "Winston" had an evil bacon slicer at a 45 degree angle which wasn't so obvious when crawling underneath - and hurt just as much as the IFF ;) UHF aerial if I remember correctly, 788 gets one of those delights too. A pro...

Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

As I say, the IFF aerial, or as I called it on the facebook page the "Dwarf Poker 9000 attachment", has received a nice soft cover just in case. Apparently Bruce Gordon found out the viciousness of these aerials the hard way, and most sportingly warned me....!!

Probably paint at some point for the battery bay. Waxoyling (or ACF50, or equivalent) will see the rest of it right.

Cheers Pete! I'm not sure it's smugness, more satisfaction at returning something back to functionality which others had previously declared not possible, or not worth while, and pillaged for their own uses. Coupled with surprise that my rewiring and overhauling of the equipment actually bloody work...

Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project

Thanks chaps! Still on a bit of a high from yesterday. It's one thing keeping something live and serviceable from directly after its retirement, but quite another thing to drag it back out of the grave kicking and screaming after 54 years' dormancy. Is she the only NF.14 that can do this? I don't kn...

Laurence, I just read the book a good few times then crack on!
