The convention of ministerial responsibility does not seem to exist anymore, sadly.

At least I know why Manchester is struggling to lower the infection rate Up to 1,700 students will isolate for 14 days after 99 at Manchester Metropolitan University tested positive for Covid-19. Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July (Provisional)

Pure guess work but I would be surprised if NG did not have some options being negotiated whilst confirming the date for next year. It would indicate a certain level of confidence and, yes, sends a strong and positive message both to us fans and to IWM.

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Some firms would have followed government advice and spent considerable funds and time preparing their work places for staff return only to be told 3 1/2 weeks later to reverse that policy (ie staff working from home where possible). It clearly is a complete shambles. They dont seem to have the abil...

Another mention for Cobra Kai. Just great writing and execution on a relatively small budget.

Best Bond movie and best Bond girl..just pure class. George Lazenby’s statement on Diana Rigg: “I'm so sad to hear of the death of Diana Rigg. She undoubtedly raised my acting game when we made On Her Majesty's Secret Service together in 1968-9. I remember the press conference at the Dorchester in L...

Re: The UKAR politics thread

BJ knows which buttons to press. We live an in era where image and "branding" overides policy, insight and facts. He taps into a deep vein of nationalism, deference and patriotism and twists it to his own advantages. Wave the union flag, drink a pint in a pub, write a book on Churchill, fight off Co...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

The irony is that a curator would have no input at all into the decision re FL but she seemed to think she was both qualified and indeed, authorised to go "on the record" re the rational behind the decision. Love this tweet that responded......... <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Interesting that the comments that came from the IWM curator were from her private Twitter account. Completely unprofessional to use that route to comment on such an issue. If any of my staff did that, words would be had!!

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

After reading this thread, hearing the radio interview and thinking about it some more, it really is sinking in what a bad decision this is by the IWM. It's one thing to see static, restored exhibits but, on non FL visits, its fascinating to see "live" warbirds stripped down, being worked on, parts ...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

I think we must not fall into the trap of assuming that Legends will be the same and, therfore, needs the same type/scale of venue. I think they may have to be more flexible with the concept in order to make use of whatever venue they can use. Old Warden, for example, simply could not cope with Lege...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Thanks for posting, really interesting, what a fantastic rep he is for TFC and he was very professional re IWM but, at the same time, it's very clear that it was not a 50/50 agreement ("it was the right decision for them. We're very close friends and big partners with IWM and I think it was a decisi...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Geeram - All fair points. What I meant was not share a show but use a venue that already has airshow hosting infrastructure (as with IWM) so TFC effectively hires the venue including the infrastructure that has been used for previous shows rather than just use an airfield and have all of the extra b...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

Agree with earlier point re TFC previously relying on IWM infrastructure. It's a big ask to step up to a full show with all that requires. I wonder if TFC could partner with an existing show organiser (in the med term) to ease any transition. Sometimes, bad news can bring great opportunities. I sinc...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

It's interesting in that, with any service, venue, event etc, having something unique gives you not only an edge over competitors but something that makes your brand unique. I agree with many comments over the years re the running of DX and the theme seems to be of corp blandness replacing what is a...

Re: Flying Legends to cease at Duxford

The IWM press realease is 100% spin. If they do run a similar style of show, I cant see them having the same connections and influence regarding getting special guests in in the way that FL has done over the years. "The glory days are over" is a tempting reaction and...actually , I fear it's true. M...

Re: The UKAR politics thread

I very rarely side with the gov but, on the exams issue, I do have some sympathy as there were no obvious options that were going to avoid what we are seeing. The media clearly exploits the "poor me", "entitlement" culture and focus on indivividual cases to add drama rather than taking a wider, stat...
