Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I wonder if "public stupidity" could be part of our ongoing International Trade negotiations. We seem to have a surplus at the moment. In contrast, how much would a ton of "common sense" cost to import?

Re: US presidential election 2020

Nov could be dangerous IMHO. Trump has so many solid "fans" who think that the whole World is conspiring against them that, if he loses, some will turn up at the Whitehouse fully "gunned up" to support him and protest. These people are clearly deluded and dangerous.

Re: Culture Wars

It's not really confusing. What concerns me is that people , for various reasons and motivations, seek to make the debate more complicated than it needs to be or get distracted by things that are meant to do exactly that. The banner was clever in that it commited no criminal offence (that I can see)...

Re: Culture Wars

This is the problem with how quickly and bluntly the message has been put accross. A huge part of the issue is police brutality in the USA. Within this issue is the debate re police racism but IF you could rid the police of racists but still have brutality embedded, then not much as been achieved.It...

Re: Culture Wars

The trouble with a pressure group that grows out of crises and desperation is that there is no overall management. The messages the group sends out are not clear, their long term objectives are not clear and their "strap lines" are misleading (for some). It's a complete mess but what can you do? I t...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

The figures – encompassing deaths in hospitals, care homes and private residences – are far higher than the numbers announced by ministers during that period at the daily Downing Street briefings, as the pandemic peaked faster than forecast.

These are now official figures.

No doubt whatsover that "protect the NHS " worked 100% but at what cost? The NHS was never really stretched to the limit whist the death toll is there to see.

Re: Edward Colston statue removal, your views.

Its a big issue in present day that the media and many parts of the establishment take over a campaign when often it's either nothing to do with them or they misinterpret the aims and become a distraction. But they have so much more influence than indivividual protestors. We have seen this week indi...

I think it now goes beyond policy, such is the impact of Trump. Just having some sort of civilised human being as leader is such a huge step forward that policy almost becomes a second issue.

Is there not a section of the wall at Duxford? I have never seen any comments that critique its location and claim that it should have remained "on site" and that history has been re-written.

The school opened in 1891. It was founded with endowments left by the Bristol-born slave trader, merchant, philanthropist, and Member of Parliament, Edward Colston (1636 – 1721), and named after him.[1][2] In November 2017, after decades of debates, Colston's Girls' School announced that it was not...

Tomahawk - spot on, its a complex issue from all sides. The problem is that, as with all issues like this, the advantage is with those who want to enforce the status quo. Both physically and mentally, it's much easier to say "British History Matters" and leave it at that, relying on how we have port...

Unlike Colston, nobody is literally or metaphorically putting GWTW on a pedestal. To me, there is a vast difference between pure sensorship and placing material within it's correct context. Dealing with the past means we have to be upfront and honest about what it is rather then hide it as if it was...
