I have one of these beasts and would not be without it.
Yep its heavy, but its so versatile negating having to carry around tow or three other bits of glass.
As with everything its down to personal choice but the 28-300 gets my vote every time.

Re: £300 repair bill on my 7D

A quick flit aroudn a few consumer forums found this: Durability Durability is another recent addition to the definition of quality. How long should a dishwasher or a vacuum cleaner or a printer last? This is a very common source of complaint and one which manufacturers were always quick to turn bac...

Olympic Security Exercise London 19th Jan

A few pics from the security exercise held in London this week. Weather on Thursday was shall we say challenging, windy, cold and and rapidly changing light. 1. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/IMARLOW/DPP07DC0114163124.jpg 2. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/IMARLOW/DPP07DC0114111127.jpg ...

Re: Is it worth taking out a Jessops Protection Plan?

Jessops can certainly be competitive with pricing. I bought the bulk of my gear from them a few years ago in one go and haggled a significant discount. Its horses for courses at the end of the day. I was lucky that those i delat with in store did know their stuff and i knew exactly what i wanted so ...

Re: Is it worth taking out a Jessops Protection Plan?

Here's my take on things, and as recently as today. 28-300MM L lens dropped and damaged. Lens purchased from Jessops but covered under house insurance. Insurers by pure chance use Jessops as their preferred repairer, though as i found out all is not quite as it seems. In my case the lens was to be s...

Re: Why doesn't Duxford support the armed forces?

Judging by the tone of some of the replies, service personnel and ex service personnel are not expected to have an opinion on such matters. Thats fair do's i guess. Perhaps worth remembering however, a lot of the current military participation (not just Duxford) relies on service personnel giving up...

Re: Why doesn't Duxford support the armed forces?

An interestign one this. I guess my default stance has to be there should be a discount for Armed Forces personnel, if for no other reason than a mark of respect and acknowledgement for the service they provide ours and other countries. The extended arguement regarding bus drivers, farmers etc is pe...

Re: Copyright breaches and results

I do love the good old fashioned copyright fracas. From my own experience, i tedn not to mess aroudn anymore. If i find an image of mine used anywhere without my written consent, they get one chance to make amends or its a trip down to the County Court and issue a claim. A local rag didnt think i wa...

Re: RESCUE - 1990 ITV series

What a superb find. Watched all but one episode when it was first aired. The episode i missed was We never say never, i remember seeign about the first five minutes or so and never did see the end of it. A very sad end to that particular story. Consummate professionals one and all, utter respect.
