Crazy to think that all they did for 2018 was a red sticker.
It goes to show that the RAF very much can do it when they put their minds to it.

It puts the, frankly dismal, attempts at other specials (including the RAF100 stickers) and the C-130 retirement sticker to great shame by its contrast.

Re: RAF Typhoon Display - Special Scheme 2024

Happy to be proven wrong, but I doubt that changes to the Chief of Air Staff had anything to do with it.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

And, I know I get crap for it, but if you really want to see CD that badly, go to Cosford. I appreciate it’s an inconvenience that another show might have what you really want to see, but unfortunately that’s the hobby. You can’t expect it all to come to you. It never has been “everything at RIAT”, ...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

they wont attend RIAT, imo only static from the French this year. When was the last time the French didn’t send at least 1 flying display then? 2015: Ramex Delta 2016: Rafale and Ramex Delta 2017: Rafale and Couteau Delta 2018: Rafale and Couteau Delta. Navy: Rafale M and atlantique (cancelled) 201...

Re: RAF Typhoon Display - Special Scheme 2024

Agree. For me, D-Day stripes don’t quite work on fuselage of jets, especially delta wings (plus they look a bit clean). Perhaps look better just on the wings, but the effort has to be applauded; it’s a fantastic looking thing on the whole. 👏🏻 Wonder what the Facebook-allocated cringe nickname for it...

A reminder, in just under an hour.

From some of the gossip I’ve heard privately from well-sourced people, it’s more than a visor, and possibly worth looking at, but perhaps I’m wrong.

Re: Catch them while you can...

Appreciate it’s geographically a long way, but judging by this tweet, JMSDF U-36A, and JASDF C-1 will be gone/retired this fiscal year.

(From memory, there are only 6 or 7 C-1s left in service at the moment)

All you guys on the forums saying the shows going to be rubbish then they come out and confirm the Mirages. Absolutely fantastic.
One participant does not negate reasonable criticism.

But it does not prevent credit being given where it’s due, either

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I also don’t think that Poland likes to advertise its ex-Soviet equipment, given their support for Ukraine, and hatred of Russia’s actions towards it I daresay Poland can’t wait to get rid of all that old Soviet stuff, as lovely as it is to us avgeeks. The AW149 is a great catch - debut indeed, and ...

Re: Cosford Airshow 2024 - 9th June 2024

As you probably know, a mirage is a naturally-occurring optical phenomenon in which light rays bend via refraction to produce a displaced image of distant objects. In this case, it will be Couteau Delta still in Nancy-Ochey, Fr.! 'A knife' you say Caper, as in the the c/s of the CV-22B Ospre...

just shaping up to have a decent lineup, national display teams, fast jet demos. Couteau Delta etc. Think I saw Patrulla Águila, gripen display, typhoon display fro European Airshows. Could be more Indeed, looks decent! I was more wondering where a participation list was, as there doesn’t seem to b...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Maybe, but the F-22 is busy RIAT weekend anyway, so it’s a bit moot this year. Whilst I do think the ACC demos *should* attend RIAT, I’m probably in a bit of a minority in that I’m not bothered that they don’t. The F-16 display is trounced by better European demos, the F-35 doesn’t really do much fo...

This airshow is looking very good so far! I would dare say ... rivaling RIAT in the flying program.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Seems like this all came about with the Biden administration , prior to this it seemed business as usual.. I highly doubt it’s got anything to do with any particular administration. One could equally say that an insular “we don’t travel” policy is rather more Trumpian, given his “America First” sta...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

2012 - 2015 had none that I recall. In that context, a two-show gap (three if this year sees none) that we’re currently in doesn’t sound so exceptional. It fluctuates. I would imagine it’s also multi-faceted; for example the F-35 demo team may periodically attend European shows because the Americans...
