Re: RIAT 2018: Thoughts & feedback!

OK so another year another RIAT. I took the plunge and went for FRIAT for the first time in a few years. A thoroughly enjoyable week, spent with some great people. The Air Tattoo crew were brilliant as ever and the cadets a credit to the corps. The flying display was good and as varied as possible w...

The riverside in Lechlade is a nice pub right on the Thames, serves good food and the scenery is cracking.

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

What is Thursday expected to be like - I assume most of the aircraft will have turned up my late afternoon, I guess its still the last practice day. When RIAT was just Sat and Sun, Friday was the last arrival day and normally had the majority of the pratice/display authorisations. I remember spendi...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

With the atl2 now down for the flying display does anybody else think it may be for a navy role demo with the rafales a bit like the royal navy demos with the falcon and hawks? Either way it's a great addition!

Re: Aviation Club on the Friday

Hi I've never used the aviation club before but you should have a good time regardless of which ever enclosure you choose. I'm guessing the dress code is more to do with promoting an image and keeping the great unwashed away. You should have plenty of space at the front due to most people in these e...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Tomorrow will be the "longest day" for RIAT organizers. Which means RIAT really is just round the corner now. I've got no clue what that involves, but yes, it is incredibly close, worryingly close actually, I might need to pop down Biggin at one point and freshen up my rusty camera skills...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

As far as i'm aware, asking which SD card you need has nothing to do with RIAT. I'm going RIAT what sunglasses should i wear? OK so relevant questions for the hard of thinking! Asking an innocent question about photography at RIAT is relevant to RIAT discussion. Nowhere on this forum does it limit ...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

There's a section of the forum for this sort of discussion : http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=27 Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the RIAT 2018 discussion forum. This was a question about RIAT 2018 and is a darn sight more relevant than 90% of the last 100 or so pages of complete dri...

A few images taken a few years back when working and staying on base with the Air Cadets These were taken between 4.45am and 5am give you an idea of the light levels for the photoshoot?? https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8365/8583130600_2ca12be89e_b.jpg DSCF2620 by alpha586 , on Flickr https://farm9.st...

B84 for me....I think as at work at the moment. Filled in the form in the FRIAT enclosure on the Friday last year despite not being FRIAT member, just asked at the entrance and said it was no problem just go through. Have done FRIAT a few times before but never been quite so high row D or E last tim...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Me to,I love to know how it’s all worked out ,who pays for fuel and what aircraft are actually paid for to attend ,all this stuff is fascinating. From what I understand NATO assets are usually free and are paid for by the respective air arms. UK assets are paid for by the show as are civilian acts,...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

I know this is maybe a wishlist thing , but would be nice to see a Pucara flying : For me it's a great looking aircraft. Has it ever flown in the UK ? . I guess the logistics to get it here would be difficult. The RAF had one post-Falklands in the UK for a bit, I've definitely seen shots of it in s...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 - [Main Topic]

I don't think we will get one on static, we already have the mock up from Lockheed. I know the F35 could certainly land easily on Cosfords runway, in terms of runway length, but would it be necessary to build the landing pads seen when they displayed at Fairford? A fly past would be the best we cou...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 - [Main Topic]

FB I take your points and if I lived closer to YVL then I would probably choose that one over Cosford but with the line up not yet complete and already looking like a cracking show Cosford has definitely tried to put on a decent birthday bash for the RAF. Modern front line jets will never be able to...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 - [Main Topic]

I think the point is that, to FB, RAF Cosford is the spawn of satan. Not at all, its just too little to stage an air show that does justice to the RAF. It simply can't support a sizeable event. FB I think Cosford is a great venue for an air show. Yes the runway is too short to operate the fast jets...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

I know these days are gone but why criticise people for remembering better days? Because nostalgia ain't what it used to be. No criticism of people remembering 'the old days', simply a recognition that they are just that...history. Recent generations have grown up in the 'information age' and many ...

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Those who go on about keeping everything secret until the actual show-days "just like the old days" appear to be forgetting that the "old days" are long gone. Whereas Joe Pub would happily attend RIAT in the past without knowing what's there, they're unlikely to do so these days...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 - [Main Topic]

Wow that's a brilliant addition The Cosford team are really pulling out all the stops again!! I wonder if it operates from shawbury will he be allowed to use flares? IIRC the Belgian F16 should have used flares in the past but tech issue prevented it.
