Re: Scampton Airshow 2018
When the Waddington Airshow was cancelled, the public outcry, fuelled by local government, was both vocal and widespread. Nobody, be it individual, business, or government department court such negative publicity. Therefore hard decisions have to be carefully managed; hence 'hype' being in existence...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018
I have heard on the grapevine the size of financial loss, but will not repeat it without verification as rumour control is not conducive to fair play. Suffice to say it was sizeable. The point of focus that I am hearing about is the Park & Ride. I didn't go so know nothing about the P&R, but...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018
The 'Battle of Britain at home' days of old were the UK military (invariably all three services) showing with much pride the taxpayer what they got for their money. The real estate, manpower, aircraft, and support services including fuel and accommodation were absorbed into the Defence Budget (paid ...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018
The senior officer cadre in the RAF have no appetite for airshows or even village fetes; although they do consider the latter the most productive for their needs. Downsizing the Armed Forces means that there is no demand for outreach recruitment. No Airshow is ran by the RAF directly. RIAT, Cosford,...

Re: Welshpool Bob Jones Memorial Air Show 19th June 2016
If I had known you were going Arthur; I would have offered you a lift. ..... and you would not have needed the P&R Every UK airshow is having a hard time this year due to a combination of CAA regulation changes that evolve of a daily basis. (I'll be nice because I think in the fullness of time i...

Re: Welshpool 19th June 2016
Mother Nature won the day in the West Midlands today. The weather forecast as recent as Friday was for a warm, cloudy and a little sunshine day in which humidity but nothing else would be a problem. Then out in the Atlantic or rather over Eire an area of low pressure with an occluded (north) leading...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2015 - [Official Thread]
I have just had a brief from the Met Office and it goes like this: Rain will begin anytime now and last until Sunday; moderate at times during Saturday. A weakening occluded front is moving north (from the south) which will stall over the Midlands. New on the weather scene is a cold front moving sou...

Re: Rare Pictures of Final Flights into Raf Cosford
The Belfast was for many years displayed in 'Heavylift' livery. If your photo is the aircraft landing at Cosford this means that it was repainted after delivery; which for an RAF Museum exhibit appears a little odd. I wonder in the JU52 was a practice approach and go around because at that stage of ...

Re: Linton on Ouse next to close? And what purpose Scampton?
They should close and dispose of the RAF real-estate at Hendon and amalgamate RAFM Hendon and RAFM Cosford into a single RAF Museum at the historically significant base at Scampton. The RAF Museum dispersed over two plots of land, and in the case of Hendon, valuable building (homes) territory is an ...

Re: Linton on Ouse next to close?
Valley has seasonal weather that is not inclusive of the fog and snow that can plaque the vale of York. Having spent a few years at Valley (82-85) it is fantastic in the summer but can be a dreary place in the winter and the RAF Community is not embraced by all of the local population where unemploy...

Re: **** St Georges Chapel - RAF Biggin Hill ****
I think the fact that it is a religious building is very much secondary to what it represents. Most military churches are multi denomination usually expressed as Church of Scotland and the free churches. The Battle of Britain was fought when religeous belief meant more to the public than it does tod...

Cheers guys. 100k signatures is a big ask, please encourage friends and family to sign and therefore multiply the impact. 2000 by the end of today would be good and it is about 1400 as I write.

"We will remember them" but the Govt wont pay! 2015 is the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. We need 10,000 signatures for this to reach the 'Commons' and yesterday there was a thousand signatures. I urge you, your fiends and family to sign to facilitate preservation of this impor...

Re: RAF at home show?
The military are in for another 'review' in 2015 - read that as futher austerity measures. None operational expenditure such as ceremonial events is an easy target and whilst it will not save huge ammounts of money, it will get the general publics attention. Other forums suggest that a Manning crisi...

Re: RAF at home show?
Scampton has been discounted. The proven alternative (RIAT) is the former RAF Cottesmore. The problem may lie in the word 'former' and the present incumbant. As I said earlier, you can speculate all day but the decision lies at the highest levels of RAF Command and the associated politics are likely...

Re: RAF at home show?
At this time, the only RAF sponsored airshow for 2015 is the RAF Cosford Air Show. I heard several months ago that moving the RAF Waddington Air Show to another venue remained within the realms of the possible and that a final decision would be made in January. Whilst this could mean that good news ...

I may have been many things at Cosford in the last three years, but a 'trader' was not one of them. Opening day went well. A clear blue sky and much support from family, friends and the general public keen to pass on their aviation experiences. In doing so, several have sown the seeds for future compositions. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/t31.0-8/10873373_10152498086623483...
