Re: Westland Wessex HU.5 XS484 History
Many thanks for that Arno, that helps enormously. I have an engine panel from ‘484 which still shows the ‘Spade’ emblem from its time with 771 NAS, plus traces of the different paint colours used during its career. But my real confusion was the fact that the top coat is a hand painted dark green (po...

Thanks Eric. That was with 771 squadron, and I’m looking for it’s other operators if possible!

Re: Westland Wessex HU.5 XS484 History
Thank you Keith. Regarding the sand and spinach livery - any idea what squadron that would have been as there’s a chance it may have entered RN service in 1964 in those colours, coded ‘469 RS’?

Westland Wessex HU.5 XS484 History
I know the first flight, delivery date to the Royal Navy and when this particular Wessex was scrapped but I would appreciate some help with what happened to it in between, such as it’s first squadron, was it used in the Falklands War, did it subsequently serve with the RAF etc? Any help gratefully r...

Re: Sea Vixen update
Totally understandable news re the Sea Vixen and I’ll be very pleased to see another Sea Fury active - especially a single seater, but I wonder why the Sea Hawk hasn’t taken the Sea Vixens place in the line for restoration to airworthiness?

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?
Fantasy fairyland, really Mike, and what about before lockdown? And surely the reality is that the RAF museum has far more resources than some might care to remember. For example did they not exchange a valuable Spitfire airframe in a deal that was supposed to bring the ex Dennis Copping P-40 to th...

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?
Some enthusiasts seem to inhabit a fantasy fairyland, where space, money and resource are unlimited and no curatorial decisions are required. “We’ll have one of everything please, especially the big stuff!” The reality is that all museums are hurting from the effects of lockdown. Some have had to m...

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?
Agreed.... And yet Hendon CAN find the resources to recover the remains of a WW2 Luftwaffe bomber that barely resembles its original form. So, are we to deduce from this that the RAF museum decided that the thirty years of stirling work of a modern day RAF refuelling Aircraft is far less worthy of ...

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?
I had always hoped that one of the Tristars there would make it into preservation in the UK. Regardless of the fact that it’s not a British type - which some seem to hold against it, after thirty years of service in the RAF it surely deserves a place in our preservation.

Re: Bruntingthorpe Closure?
But presumably the sale was made by The Walton family without any guarantees for the airframes on site that are not owned by the Waltons being part of the deal? It just sounds like the idea of a museum continuing there is an after thought rather than a priority - a surprising situation given that mo...

Re: Sea Fury forced landing in Harston, Cambs.
“False landing” dear oh dear what BS. Forced landing, emergency landing, wheels up landing.. take your pick of a more accurate description. But describing it as a false landing is imo just a way of trying to put a PC spin on what was a serious incident with, very happily, a miraculous escape for the...

Would love to see that one preserved in the UK - just don’t ask me where though!

That’s a really nice job on getting the Dragonfly panels working. As much as we all like Meteors, the Dragonfly is a lovely little diversion and a bit different from the norm!

As I was driving I saw this coming towards me on finals so I stopped and filmed it as it flew overhead, first one I’ve seen at Stansted for sometime and a rare treat. Just like all Russian heavies for me the IL-76 is such a distinctive and fascinating aircraft. Nice photos and thanks for posting! Rob
