Re: The UKAR politics thread

Christ look at the cringe of this. Performative cretinous knobs. https://twitter.com/josephdcassidy/status/1405819272119586817?s=21 There is such a thing as winning with class and dignity and being magnanimous. This is like play school. Fisher Price hammer and everything. I get what you’re saying, ...

Re: Sir Frank Whittle: the test pilot who revolutionised aviation

I must admit that I missed the 80th Anniversary of the first flight of the Gloster E28/39 on the 15th May. By chance I have been reading Jet Pioneers by Tim Kershaw which is the first book that I have come across that details the historic matching of the Whittle jet engine with a purpose built airfr...

Re: The UKAR politics thread

I always thought Conservatives were libertarian but insisting voters have ID cards is the opposite of this. It's the classic political thing of inventing something that isn't actually a thing, and then providing a solution! If it is a "thing" and there has been electoral fraud on such a scale that ...

Re: Lightning finds new home-at Binbrook!

Is that the Tub that Ian flew his father in after he passed out as the last Lightning pilot...? It’s worth checking out Ian’s Twitter feed linked above. There is a lot of detail on there about the aircraft and its links with his family. There is an extract from his fathers logbook showing when he f...

Last 11 general election results Labour Lose, lose, lose, lose,Blair,Blair,Blair, lose, lose, lose, lose. It's interesting to look back at who the party in power has been in the century or so since the Labour Party was formed, it's pretty much 2/3 Conservatives, 1/2 Labour, with a blip for the wartime coa...

Johnson desperate to avoid any more talk of the cash for curtains scandal, the contract sleaze, the calamitous state of our future post-Brexit economy, or the terrible Covid death toll. Send in some navy boats. Britain is a laughing stock but the joke isn’t funny anymore. According to some of the r...

Re: Is anybody happy with the Brexit white paper?

A year after the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Channel Islands this is frankly embarrassing. what on Earth are the UK thinking sending the RN in for a peaceful protest? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57003069 A bit of sabre rattling always plays well, just ahead of important elections.

On the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's death I couldn't help commenting on this report about France threatening to turn off Jersey's electricity supply. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-56991804 How long is it since people were suggesting Putin's threat to turn of Estonia's gas supply...

One of my favourite “birds” produced by a very talented member of the Aerofly user community, who subsequently produced a Lynx Mk7 with incredible detail including full start up sequence:

Re: Which Flight Sims?

Aerofly fs2 is worth a try as a civilian flight sim. It gives a great frame rate on a modest computer. A version is also available on mobiles and the Mac On the PC it is the best in my view for VR. I am not in any way affiliated to the product and I have tried most of the sims available. The downsid...

The Post Office, incompetence off the scale!
This has ruined so many lives. Absolutely disgraceful. Despite this I am convinced that the real culprits ie senior managers etc will not be brought to account in any meaningful way.

You keep asking about 'good data' from the UK, what exactly are you looking for? I would like to know: 1. of the 30m doses given so far how many are Pfizer and how many AZ (UK) 2. of those doses how many are manufactured wholly in the UK (that's all component parts and finish and fill) 3. how many ...

Yes. As I said it was badly implemented and gave “devolved” areas an easy way to scupper it and blame the government. This is not anecdotal- I lived in a Tory council in Lancashire and my “Poll Tax” was set at £300 odd per person per year ( if I remember corrrectly). Me and my wife saw a nice reduc...

Don’t worry about me. I came up with “Former English Colony” first - primarily to annoy Scots. She's at it again. The EU today declared vaccine war on the UK as it demanded Britain hand over doses of its AstraZeneca jab or else see exports from the continent blocked, despite the fact that most of Europe has stopped using the jab. They couldn't believe how difficult so many people were finding the recent authoritarianism simply because we Brits tend to obey the law. They're used to living with authoritarian laws and al...
