Re: Cleethorpes Beaufighter Wreckage

Beaufighter JM333 of 254 Sqn, lost 21 Apr 1944. A number of people have see it pop up then disappear over the years, I visited it in the late 1980's, but could never find it again in subsequent attempts!

I don't know about bombs, but there was definitely ammunition still in the wreck.

Re: Ethiopian/South African restorations

Shame no-one's gone after the last two Fireflies in Eritrea, after the Canadians took their two out. The ones that came out of Ethiopia were part of a different bunch at Addis Ababa, and at least one of them ended up in France.

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

To be honest there's not much in it. Apart from certain areas around the inboard nacelles the undercoat applied by the RAF was holding up pretty well, and the topcoat cleans fairly easily. The current white does show up any algae or staining a little more than grey does though.

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Cole - You're welcome. We looked back on the last ten years and the best times and fortunes for the aircraft were when we didn't try and make the group into something it wasn't and concentrated on the Shackleton herself. This is the part of trying to return to that and remove a lot of unnecessary co...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Correct. At the Directors meeting this year we had the opinion we didn't warrant the CIC, its been an unnecessary encumbrance. How many other aircraft preservation groups do you know that are CIC or a CIO? There's no need for it. We want to preserve the aircraft and ditch the over the top ideas abou...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Beyond your slightly expensive, and Walt-tastic, game of dressing up has this thing flown yet? Is this project still deep in fantasy land? Can I get my donation back? Hi Alanko - Its not walt-tastic at all, if you check in CAA regs (CAP 632, Operation of 'Permit to Fly' Ex-Military Aircraft on the ...

Hi unknown74

WR963 was/mostly still is an AEW2. We're slowly deleting the modifications to put her back to her previous MR2 condition. If you've photos we'd love to see them!

hunterxf382 - I look forward to seeing you! It should be a good day, what with day and dusk runs within a few hours of each other. We have a few more things planned, but taxying 963 is the big goal. Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Hi all. Quite a while ago, I used to update this thread, and it seems I haven't done much of it over the last year; something I feel needs to change. So here goes... a bit of a 2019 round up, and a 2020 forecast of sorts! WR963 entered 2019 with the same maladies she'd been suffering for a while. A ...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Hi all. We received the sad news about John over the weekend; his passing has left a huge hole in our ranks. We lost a leader, a mentor, a friend.. and someone who had an almost inexhaustible wealth of knowledge about the Shackleton and what makes her tick. A short while ago we were hoping to get Jo...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Hi all. There is an issue, and its one of Dad's (Dave Woods) own making. He's wanting 'his' toy back if the Shackleton Aviation Group CIC don't play by his rules - despite not being in charge of things any more. He sold the aircraft to the CIC in Feb 2017, and handed more or less everything over to ...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

I've had a look back at what I've posted and while I've laid the sarcasm on a tad I don't remember insulting anyone. Given the above warning about my posts - can I ask why suggesting my friends and family are akin to pikeys and engaging in fraudulent activities has escaped scrutiny? Things have been...

Whatever. You know better than the Charities Commission, obviously. I'll listen to them though rather than your ranting, thanks. Your visits in 2017, don't make me laugh. Wake up a tad will you? The only attacks are coming from people that seem hard of understanding and still rake up the past. In answer.. Opening times - you PM'd me about it, and posted on here, and created a separate topic. You were told repeatedly that they didn't reflect activities accurately and ...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Hi Mike, After things went sour we had to sit back and figure out of it was worth carrying on - we all thought it would be a waste not to. So it is still an in progress work to get WR963 flying, the opinion was such that if we could get back to the monthly run-ups, and from then on to taxying again ...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Yes, it is trivial, as there's no further action. They were late - as you rightly point out according to law. There is a mechanism in place to deal with it and it has been dealt with. It didn't require anyone elses involvement, or opinion. This part of the story is done. Furthermore, I'm not a Direc...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

Imagine a world where the Postal Office got things where they were supposed to be on time; especially when you pay for a courier and have it tracked. A lesson's been learned in that using the online filing would probably have been a better bet. But hey, if you want to join those seizing on anything ...

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

These kind of responses are why I don't bother updating, as its just not worth the effort. Why pander to what seems to be just a few angry people pursuing some kind of half arsed vendetta on a dying forum..? Those that are genuinely interested know where to go to get news or updates. Anyway, here's ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I would expect the first couple of runs to be done without public knowledge or with very limited numbers. Our first attempt was shortly after the airport closed for the day so there was next to no-one about; and a good thing too as we lost brake pressure. The second time we got the public all out to...

In posting on this topic I haven't been free with praise, and I'm still not entirely confident in the Trustees and management. But thats my opinion, and pretty much irrelevant. However I look at it though I can't ignore the fact the aircraft has been taxied; even though it was slowly. Fair play to t...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I'm not suggesting you're stupid, I'm suggesting you're mixing up your own issues with what you have been sold and access to view that; with what would be an actual concern about the running of the charity. Go look at the Charities Commission website and you can find guidance, also look up what VTST...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Think carefully about this. Have you a legitimate concern with the charity not meeting its stated objectives; or are you just dissatisfied with the charity not doing what you think it should? One will get you an answer from the Charities Commission, the other will just get a letter generated to VTST...
