Navy CAG E-2 in Shannon
Shannon airport is no longer known for its military movements but was blessed this weekend by the arrival of a US Navy E-2C Hawkeye that arrived from the US via Keflavik and departed the next day for the French Navy airfield at Cuers - Pierrefeu. Rumour has it that its a spares ship (possibly in con...

Storm Animal - Beluga Testing in Shannon
Haven't posted in a while but we had a little excitement in Shannon for a change. The weather conditions were suitably poor (strong and gusty crosswinds) to entice Airbus to send the new Beluga to us for certification testing work. The plan was to test and gather data for crosswind handling during r...

Have to agree about the warbirds park it is really special. It can get really busy with aircraft movements and they were closing off access to the parking areas this year during the show as the majority of aircraft took part in the displays A couple more images from the week Lots of T-6's present ce...

Great pics
I'm glad somebody got at shot of the B-1 departure show, it looked (to coin and American phrase) Awesome! Full reheat set against the oncoming thunderstorms. I was too busy legging it back to the campsite before I got truly soaked and nearly missed altogether!

Re: Airventure 2018 Oshkosh
Many thanks for all the kind comments. This was my second visit to Oshkosh and I would recommend it to anyone but plan ahead as it is getting very popular! I camped onsite again this year and even the huge campsite was almost full by Sunday morning before the show. If you haven't been before plan to...

Arctic Herc in Shannon
This week saw the transit of an polar LC-130H Hercules from the NY Air Guard. Not too common in Europe and only the 2nd in 10 years that I have seen in Shannon. This one apparently went to Landsberg in Germany and is now transitting back to the USA. Flikr Page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/58611670...

Hi All Shannon had another classic airliner visitor this morning when the evangelical relief agency Samaritans Purse sent their 48year old DC-8 through on a tech stop enroute from Jordan to the USA. Bentwaters Show 1988
I recently scanned a set of (badly underexposed) slides taken at the 1988 RAF Bentwaters Air Friendship Day and had a go at reworking them. I think the weather on the day was poor with low cloud and poor light plus KR64 in the camera didn't help. The show was a one day affair with a fairly typical a...

Sneaky USN Orion
Last weekend we had a rare visit from a US Navy Orion here in Shannon. After some discussion about this aircraft (which arrived with a VP-1 callsign), it would seem that it is not what it appears on the surface. Comparison with other photos taken of this aircraft (Bu162772) show the sensor and aeria...
