Re: Topic of the week #98:A10

Can someone explain why the front wheel and the mental gun at the front are both off centre? Is it just because they get in each other's way? Yes, that's the reason, for me. The A-10 was actually built around the gun itself. EDIT : that's the reason for which the front wheel is off-centre. For the ...

Re: A pair of 1/144 HS Tridents

I agree, the nose on the Trident I looks more accurate as I remember the aircraft (as a young spotter the G-ARP* Tridents were one of the fleets I had most of, chiefly at LHR.)

Flew once on a Trident III from Heathrow to Zurich, a joint route with Swissair - came back on a much more comfortable A310!

Re: Ace ?

Edit: Perhaps relevant: were WWII fighter pilots awarded a kill for shooting down a V1? Unmanned and not manoeuvring..... If I recall correcftly, they were awarded half of a kill. Not quite correctly: the original edict was that a kill over the sea counted as one whereas a kill over England counted...

Re: Ace ?

Most of the night kills during WWII were performed by expert pilots sneaking up on an aircraft flying straight and level whose crew were completely unaware of their impending destruction. This is not an obstacle to claiming a kill. Edit: Perhaps relevant: were WWII fighter pilots awarded a kill for ...

Whomever is awarded it (I hope it is Leonardo), I just hope the MoD pulls their finger out. Much as I love them, the Pumas are very tired and were supposed to be replaced with this new type next year, yet a contract hasn’t even been issued! Other nations have been able to draw up requirements, tend...

Re: Top 10 Airshow Moments of 2023

I've very little quarrel with the ten selected but for me the highlight of the year was the airshow debut of Sidney Cotton's Electra Junior G-AFTL, one of the most historic airframes of British aviation, marking not only the Entente Cordial co-operation between the French secret service and the Brit...

Hate to think what will happen to the Sunderland if thats the case for Airspace!
Cold war Started in 1947 (according to wiki) and the Sunderland retired from RAF service in 1959.
Including a contribution to the Berlin Airlift, definitely qualifies for Cold War warrior status.

Same owners as the Gnats at North Weald looking at Companies House. Apparently the F/A.2 is merely a signature away from flying, according to some sources. Maybe, but there is a massive burden of responsibility on the owner of that signature, especially in these (post Shoreham) times. Maybe, but th...
