Re: Memphis Belle (1990 version) inaccuracies?

I don’t know about the accuracy, but that summer sure was a fun time. Riding around East Anglia in the waist position of a B-17, dressed as a gunner by the props dept, as part of a formation of 5 B-17s with a finger four of Mustangs overhead and Mark in the Buchon howling almost vertically through ...

Re: energy/utility bills - is a fixed tariff beneficial at present

I agree that the issue of habitat is significant, but perhaps not insurmountable. It’s entirely possible to create new habitats for wetland species. The Isle of Grain itself is comprised partly of derelict brownfield land. In the end inspectors/ experts did conclude that for a whole host of reasons...

Re: energy/utility bills - is a fixed tariff beneficial at present

Boris has touted some great ideas like the Thames airport, the garden bridge and the bridge across to Ireland but sadly these are all just fantasy hot air. As I said we have talked about a barrage for 100 years and we are no closer now than then. Other countries would have built one by now. France ...

Re: energy/utility bills - is a fixed tariff beneficial at present

PS. I am treasurer and Secretary of a Blackpool Sea Angling club formed in 1905. Oh no. Now I've got an image in my head of a bloke in stockings counting a pile of cash while monitoring his rod. Good info there though. If Boris wanted to create a legacy while 'saving the planet' he should have damm...

Re: Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2022 - 10th & 11th September

Let’s be realistic here, the last Flying Legends in 2019 was criticised on this very forum for a lack of visiting acts from abroad… whether that’s CAA, Brexit etc. I’m sure it’s even harder now since COVID to get acts from the continent. I’d be the first to criticise IWM when it is justified but fo...

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

On returning to my car in Blue after the show on the saturday, someone had left a large bag of leftover food and rubbish on my car roof. Lovely. 🙄 RIAT really does attract the full range of people from society. I'm still quite surprised because I saw many who seemed to have no concept of leftover f...

Re: New PM - who would you choose?

The way I think it will end. Penny is unable to hold back the surge to Liz from Kemi's supporters. The party faithful and the stop Rishi campaign ensure that Liz , by far the worst candidate becomes leader and PM. The country at large never take to Liz, at least Boris had a personality. Liz takes t...

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

Some interesting and good comments/thoughts in this thread. For me, put simply; this was an absolutely vintage RIAT. I echo IainP’s thoughts from the FRIAT stand today - it’s about as good as an Air Tattoo can be in this day and age. Sure, your individual favourite aircraft might not have been ther...

Well done catching the "Gripen fart" - I'd just put my camera down, so I saw it but no image. The rest of my party missed it entirely. Any technical explanation for it?

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

Looks like people already getting hot and bothered on here already and thats before the temperature reaches its peak.haha.enjoy. And the show’s not cancelled? Ridiculous. There needs to be a law that prevents events going ahead in these conditions. The pilots should refuse to fly also! The pilots a...

Re: Canon R7 - anyone got one ?

5071 images at RIAT yesterday. Hit the buffer once covering an opposition manoeuvre. AF tracking is ridiculous, by the time your eye focuses through the viewfinder the camera is tracking the target and you haven't even pressed AF-on yet. What chimping I had time for suggests AF itself really really ...

Nick - thanks for the tips (PP ditto), I will test for myself IDC but not try at once with RIAT a key event of the year. Thankfully I have plenty of batteries. Great shots!

Re: The UKAR politics thread

Interesting that only 2 of the candidates for the leader of the Conservatives would identify as 'white male' What I find fascinating is that the woke bodies quoting the need for diversification such as the BBC and the media generally, still tend to have largely white governance while the nasty Tori...

A better question might be why does part of an organisation whose finest hour was the Battle of Britain, jump out of a Dornier?

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread

With the B-52 cancellation and hot weather on Saturday/Sunday I've decided I am not going on the weekend. I am looking for someone to swap tickets with. I have 2x Saturday tickets with the Swindon bus and I am looking for 2x Friday tickets. It’s gutting, but honestly, you’ll regret this decision. J...

Re: South Korean Black Eagles practising near Boscombe Down this morning

Todays validation at farnborough was pathetic due to the restrictions. Flypasts across the airport about 1200ft, any manouvering was to the west of the field, a good 3 miles west of the main show area, it was utterly pointless IMHO. Not sure if that makes me feel better or not.... roll on Saturday!

Black Eagles currently rehearsing what looks like a full display at Farnborough. I mean, jolly good and all that, but given the stupid restrictions on everyone else, WTF??? Because it is not legally "an air show" and therefore not subject to CAP403? I'd be surprised and disappointed if th...
