Re: Possible Israeli Air Force to Coningsby - Sept 2019

If the surrounding car parks are full of spotters etc, joe treehugger protester, will have a hard time getting near the fence. Why? Or are you advocating violence in order to prevent people legitimately protesting? After all, the UN, Amnesty International and other international organisations have ...

Re: Possible Israeli Air Force to Coningsby - Sept 2019

Was there any protests when they attended RAF Waddington, did they not Display at the Airshow without any incidents. That was an open base Airshow, Conningsby is a closed active base, i doubt it that anything will kick off. If the surrounding car parks are full of spotters etc, joe treehugger protes...

Re: Tornados left in service

Source is a very well regarded enthusiast who has spoken to a Tornado pilot (who can't be named for obvious reasons) that confirmed the restriction is in place following the random posts that appeared on Facebook this morning. I've waited for more legitimate sources to confirm before posting. So a ...

Re: Tornados left in service

Update, now that this is confirmed and not just a facebook rumour. Due to a very minor incident just before Christmas being under investigation - Tornado ops are restricted to medium and high altitude operations only until retirement. Therefore there is zero chance of catching the specials out and ...

Re: Special Scheme Tonka

Typical RAF, throw money at something that's going. Same when they pile money on runways and infrastructure then shut the base down. Same here paint all these jets up for a few months, Then you have all the idiots last year defending the RAF for being cash strapped that they could not paint up 1 jet...

10am is the flight time, Brunty is good and yes static are viewable.

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

Can drones be configured to fly a programmed route at a specific time, similar to setting an alarm clock? This would allow the owner to be somewhere else thus providing a plausible alibi. Just because someone is a drone enthusiast and lives near the LGW, doesn’t mean to say they are the culprits. T...

Looking at that video I would say its a DJI Phantom, I own a Phantom 3 pro.
So have a idea how they look at distance. But could be wrong.

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

Just seen on the BBC news, that the police have not seen the drone and they do not no what make or model it is. Also asking if the public have any footage of it, so they can try and find the model type so they can tackle it.
Nothing sounds right about this story.

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

My hunch is that the drones are a cover story for an unspecified security incident or threat to the airport. Hard to think of many other ways to stop all flights in and out while the situation is dealt with. No way on earth has one or a couple of invisible drones closed an international airport for...

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

Get a pair or more of Typhoons to do a show of force over Gatwick, then some tight turning and burning in the night sky.
Have a Sentinel or Sentry up above monitoring .

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

Cannot find any pics, But the police helicopter was up and the drone would glow if viewed with its infra red or night camera and be easy to follow it, they do get hot and would give off a heat signal, Why I find it very strange that the copper choppers could not see or follow them all night, And now...

So much of the story doesn’t add up. But, hey, it’s got the public looking away from the Brexit train wreck. Almost as if that was the intention all along. Be those peski Russians. Having a laugh. send in a chinook over Gatwick. The down draft will cause it a few problems, get a few out the back an...

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

People are grasping at straws re shooting them down. Can you imagine some "keystone cops" scenarios re a guy on the back of a pickup trying to get it in his sights? (according to wiki, you have 674 hectares to cover) If there was an obvious solution, it would have been invented and patent...

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

A shotgun carried range is what 50m with the spread of the shot? bit to short to easily reach a drone flying around at 120m height! Demending on the shot size, with a 12g with a 'full choke' ( longest range, smallest spread ) it'll be somewhere around 30-40". Standard shot in use for clay shoo...

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

On the range issue, I fly a Phantom 3 Pro, a Phantom 4 Pro and an Inspire 1. They are limited in terms of legality to a maximum range of 500m from me and always in VLOS. However, the Phantom 4 is good for up to 2.8km-3km straight out of the box. Disable the restrictions in the set-up (its a tick bo...

Re: Gatwick Airport Closed Due to Drones

Seen on the news that apparently it was hovering over the runways for hours, now most have a short run time of about 30 minutes and the cheaper toy like drones even less, so bit baffled with that statement. Thing also is they have not got this drone, its flew away. If it was say a Phantom drone then...
