Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Once again, we've had to delete a number of posts that are hoping, wishlisting, wanting and nothing to do with the show thread. These are all posts that should go in the wishlist thread. If you're hoping something comes, wishlist. If you're talking about something that there's no indication it's com...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Regarding low drag, sort of. Imagine a space rocket going vertically up - low drag. Now angle it at 20 degrees to the airflow - is it still low drag? Yes. Almost, have another go. Yes. For the same reason that a Concorde in a flat spin is still a supersonic airliner. The design doesn't change just ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

On paper, an A2A loadout will have minimal effect on a display performance. While they're not featherweight missiles, by definition aerodynamically they're extremely low drag and high-g, so they shouldn't effect what the aircraft can do very much at all, bar a weight penalty (which could be equally...

No, I'd say it'd be pretty pointless and worth about as much as none. Might as well just be on static and get it on the Monday.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Aerodynamically, I'd have thought that an aircraft with a full weapons load must be less capable than one that's empty, so if the displays are similar perhaps the clean display if anything is the one that's holding back? Would you have to have 2 pilots who have both validated 2 separate displays I ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I think it's perfectly valid to acknowledge that a display looks good but also say that it being quite short is a shame. I don't think it being a manufacturer demo is any particular excuse for it to not be a full length demo, I'm sure they could add to it if they wanted.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

It's interesting that for the "tooled up" demo to show how little the aircraft is affected by it Boeing have decided to give it a loadout that would have almost no effect on performance anyway... Far more impressive would be A2G stuff, fuel tanks, things that would actually impose a drag a...

Stored Republika Srpska jets at Banja Luka

In March I was able to do a couple of base visits with the Bosnian Armed Forces. Both bases were exemplary hosts and while there wasn't a great deal of flying activity I did come away with some great shots of helicopters both on the ground and in the air. However, at Mahovljani Air Base in Banja Luk...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The Austrians committed their excellent EF2000 QRA demo to RIAT in 2022; a quarter or a third of their C-130 capacity was sat at Fairford for a week. And yet for their big show that September the U.K. sent nothing back. The Austrians might be entirely forgiven for not bothering to send anything to ...

A Morning Flight with EUFOR

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the absolutely wonderful country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In advance of my trip I arranged to visit the EU military mission in the country, EUFOR, and hopefully take some photos. Doing a bit of research, from what I was aware of the Hungarian Air Force was leading t...
