Re: Aviation Procurement: Winging it? House of Commons report
Never mind Shapps my perception is that there has been a cuts yes man in the form of Wigston for a while now. The problem is across the Services and TBH at most officer ranks. Far too many are more concerned about their next promotion than the state of Britain's defence As opposed to civil servants...

Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread
Evening everyone, Due to a change in circumstances I now find myself free on Thursday of arrivals. I have a vague recollection of there normally being limited tickets available on the day and of it being discussed on here before… but I can’t find it. So, did I dream it or do RIAT still have limited ...

F-16?
24 hours late I know but 2 x F-16 flew directly over Drayton, Portsmouth yesterday. I’m fairly confident of my identification but did anyone else see them or know what they were up to?
Oh and Happy Christmas to all!

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I know this has been asked lots of times including this year but I’ve been looking through the pages and can’t find it… so with apologies… A question about Thursday arrivals. One of the reasons for not going to the main show days anymore is that my Dad who is approaching his 80s can’t manage the ear...

Re: July 3rd - Fly Navy
Not sure Tommy, I can’t remember. You may be right it could help but my suspicion is that give it a season and everything would be back to square one because of the insatiable need to be first in. I think it’s a change of mindset that is needed. Firstly to one where people don’t feel the need to hav...

Re: July 3rd - Fly Navy
Read the post again Bkackbird. The problem was started by people arriving so early that there was already a huge backlog BEFORE the gates were due to open. It takes time to process that amount of traffic safely and fairly. I thought the system of managing it was pretty good. They opened the ticket c...

Re: July 3rd - Fly Navy
Mostly enjoyed the show but got a bit disheartened as the weather closed in. People moaning about getting in. Get over it. The problem is one of our own making. We all turn up together increasingly early and then expect everyone to magically park exactly where they want the second the gates are open...

Hi Mike
Yes sorry should have perhaps worded it better.
“If only we had had a few more months…”
Luckily work took me down to SEAHAWK about 6 weeks before the ceased ops so I did get to see them lots before the went

Re: July 3rd - Fly Navy
First show in forever! Line up is fantastic with just a tinge of greedy wishful thinking and if onlys.. If only Hunters could still display (anyone remember the Blue Herons?) If only the Sea Hawk and Sea Vixen were still flyable If only a Sea Fury or a Swordfish could make an appearance If only a Co...

Re: Drive-in airshows?
All this talk of drive in airshows being new and innovative. I am sure I remember as a child in the 70s and 80s watching the majority of airshows from the car? IAT at Greenham Common? RAF Locking open days? RAF Fairford at home days? RAF St Athan BoB Day? It may be that some of the above weren’t set...

As a child I remember seeing Jags, Harriers and the odd Tornado using Breen Down as a waypoint. Living near to Filton at the time there were regular surprises that could be seen from the school window, the EAP and ATP demonstrators displaying for the workers stands out. This was along with the regul...

Re: There a hole in my bucket dear Liza dear Liza
A white elephant used to refer to something which isnt useful, as the US Navy carrier force has actually been flying combat missions since at least desert storm in 1991 non stop, they surely cannot fall in that category? An aircraft carrier with no combat planes of it's own, and a hole in the botto...

Re: There a hole in my bucket dear Liza dear Liza
The one thing to remember is, as has already been mentioned, she is still undergoing sea trials, the purpose of which is to try to break her! QNLZ is in effect a prototype and therefore things are going to break and go wrong - and probably for a while yet! As for a white elephant, do you hold the sa...

Hi Melvyn I’m sorry that you feel like that. It’s true, there are many who did so much who get forgotten about along the way. As a serving Royal may I suggest you contact your local RMA? There will be people there in a similar position to you and if nothing else you could feel part of the Corps’ fam...

So much to enjoy in that Lancaster clock. The scale. The nosewheel. The hangar posters. I see the black dog is included, which no doubt will satisfy their target audience. Sorry Dan, would you care to explain this as for a moment there it looks like you are implying that anyone who buys this is a r...

Re: F35 in the news again
Sorry Vulcan you misinterpreted my point. My fault, maybe I should have been clearer. The carrier is obviously not the mode of transport in which a head of state arrives. What it does is represents the country and provides a statement of Global Power onboard which friendships, alliances and indeed b...

Re: F35 in the news again
Sorry Vulcan but that is a serious misunderstanding of the term Global Power in this modern age. The power projection of an aircraft carrier coming into a foreign port and engaging with the high and mighty of that country is far more far reaching than a small squadron of bombers which realistically ...

Re: RAFAT: In decline?
No display team changes their display much between seasons. I think the Red Arrows change two or three manoevres every year. They are still good, they're precise, tight and very professional but, and I've said this before, they're let down by a typically British stiff-upper-lip, professional and bo...

Re: RIAT 2018: Thoughts & feedback!
Sorry I still don’t get it reference RAFAT being so “poor” yet Frecce being so “good”. To my eyes Frecce haven’t evolved either, still doing the same, or at least similar, routine that they have been for several years, with the same commentary and same music and yet apparently they are amazing? And ...
