Re: Final Hawk T1s from RNAS Culdrose
It was there for a short period, but simply sat on its undercarriage just inside the fence. Has since been removed again (October) in order to be prepped for long term display, presumably in the same location.

Germany and Austria call it simply Eurofighter or EF2000.

Re: Questions re new Apache variant
Easy to get around, given the aircraft's official manufacturer name being Lightning II, and noting we now have an Envoy IV CC1. Lightning II FGR1/FA1/FGA1 etc would be free to use. Realistically though I'm not sure they'd worry too much about it with historical examples that far in the past, or we c...

Re: Your Favourite UK Airshow Venue
Well obviously I'm biased here, but I'd say the dearly missed RNAS Culdrose Air Day would be near the top of my list for a few good reasons: - sun always to your back - nice amount of static displays interspersed with many 'on-topic' stalls and displays - flight line long enough to allow for the big...

Re: disabled photography
Have you had a look at the Disabled Photographer's Society? They've helped out several people I know and offer various solutions and ideas for equipment adaptations alongside a community. They've got great links with the Royal Photographic Society.

Re: Cornwall aviation heritage centre
There's a rumour going around that work has started on the VC10... anyone able to confirm that? The rumours appear based on the fact the aircraft is now resting directly on the tarmac, with the undercarriage cut off. It's been like that for some time, as it was otherwise in danger of collapsing. It...

Dunkeswell 80
Sort of half between a general aviation and warbird thread, so thought best placed in here, despite there being no flying displays! Dunkeswell Airfield celebrated their 80th anniversary this weekend and put on quite a show of static aircraft, alongside flying by arriving/departing aircraft and a Spi...

News is a few days old, but since it's not been shared here. Both of CAHC's Hunters have found homes. WT722 at Bournemouth Aviation Museum, and WV256 at an as yet undisclosed location.

If anyone's curious about the status of other hangars on the airport site, they're certainly being well utilised in accordance with Cornwall Council's plans to maximize value for money for taxpayers Cornwall Council slammed for storing thousands of unused bins at a cost of £300,000 The council has b...

Re: Lightroom Denoise.
Personally, have a go at using photoshop, and hopefully you have taken your photos in RAW, then use the RAW editor. Way better than LR. Camera RAW and Lightroom share the same basic architecture for their processing (when 'clarity' appeared in LR it also appeared in CR, same for AI denoise). I'm no...

Lightnings Strike at Culdrose
Couldn't have asked for better weather for the F-35's first taste of the tarmac at RNAS Culdrose! ZM158 and ZM163, callsigns DOOM11/12, performed a flypast over Falmouth for the flag raising ceremony ahead of Armed Forces Day this coming weekend, and subsequently spent a few hours on the deck at Cul...

Re: Mechanical vs electronic shutter - curious what people are using
Most mirrorless cameras out there currently would perform better for aviation photography with the mechanical shutter. The readout speeds of the electronic shutter in all but the highest end cameras with stacked sensors (like the Z9 mentioned above) are not much good for fast moving objects and wil...

Re: Need help deciding on Mirrorless Camera
The Canon has more affordable native lenses but not sure if they will be as good quality. And also its the only camera that is not weather resistant at all. Obviously doesn't do anything for the weather sealing issue, but I can say having tried my fair share of RF lenses from the cheapest available...

Re: Cornwall aviation heritage centre
You're probably thinking of these airframes. As part of the loan to CAHC, JARTS would occasionally visit and use their aircraft as well as some of the museum's for training.
I can't think of any other bit at RAF St Mawgan (which is still operational, not ex!) that would fit the bill.

Re: Current Reconnaissance Squadron in RAF
Further research and I'm wondering if tactical reconnaissance is being ceded to the British Army. Are there any plans to add reconnaissance devices to the F-35B? It's more that a significant amount (though not all) of the reconnaissance that once required special aircraft and squadrons can now be p...

They never had Gripens. ETPS have an arrangement with Saab and Sweden to use their aircraft, this almost always takes place in Sweden.Brevet Cable wrote: ↑Sat 25 Feb 2023, 6:07 pm
Have QinetiQ still got their Gripen(s) because as there aren't any Harriers lying around, they'd be the most suitable type ?

Re: Worst enthusiast behaviour you've seen?
Much more self-entitled are the people who stand 20 odd metres away from the aircraft to get a wide shot of it, or whatever, then scream and shout at anyone walking across in front of them like it's on them to notice people standing miles away from the barrier to take a photo. What is with these pe...

Im well aware of the adaptor and as with any adaptor there is a penalty in Nikon's case the adaptor seems to affect focus speed on some lenses. 🙂 I can't speak for Nikon, as I only have experience with the Canon versions, however I've heard of effectively zero issues* regarding the use of adapters ...

Re: New Canon cameras
What I don't understand about Canon's policy is the they have two ranges of mirrorless, the R and the M, which have different mount which are not interchangeable. You can't buy and M to R adaptor because the electronics on the two ranges are not compatible. Whatever happened to the concept of stand...
