Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Since this thread is to 'discuss most things' - we are going to our first ever departures day this year (only ever been to the main shows and an arrivals day one year), can I just confirm that you either stand on the far left or far right of the runway, and the FRIAT stand is in the middle? Thanks ...

I'd take that with a pinch of salt - I'd read that as a flypast.

Re: Aircraft Identification Help Requested

It's a DH Moth Minor - possibly N94DH which was painted as AV977

There are only two in the US, the other being N9403 which from a google search looks to have always been painted silver.

Re: MCAS Miramar Airshow 27-29 September 2024

I've not been since this rule came in. One that has been at Miramar for about 7 years is that you can only bring in clear bags up to one gallon in size. They're easily available on amazon, I keep one specifically for US shows. They won't let you on with a camera bag. They didn't require one at Lemoo...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

I will jump for joy if we ever get a Pakistan fast jet contingent - in particular a J-10 on static. I don’t even care if it isn’t flying :-)

Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

I've never experienced any issues, access to Ragley Hall is usually really good. They host a major Game Fair every year that has a much bigger crowd than the airshow so their traffic plans are top drawer. The car park entrance will be here and is usually traffic light controlled: https://maps.app.go...

Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

2024 will be my first visit to MAF and will be my wife’s once a decade airshow. We are going on Saturday and I’ll not be able to employ my usual airshow tactic of arriving as the gates open and then going to sleep for an hour! I would be grateful if any previous visitors can advise on ease of entry...

Re: RIAT E-mails

Tidied up your post a bit as it was complete gobbledygook. From the first part it sounds like there have been some issues identified with early ticket sales and they just want people to check so they don't have issues on the day. Also, if they are supplying food in an enclosure in the price of a tic...

Re: Doncaster Sheffield Airport,lease signed!

All the council tax payers in the area are going to be worried about is, how we going to pay for this ? Plus we've cut services saying they cant afford them. But have leased an airport. Hope everything turns out OK for them. I understand this has been funded by allocating the entire of Doncaster’s ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The traditional RIAT easter update has typically been the RAF flying assets. I'd say announcing an international flying participant (a good display at that) and a debut static participant isn't bad for an early easter. The new financial year is just around the corner - I'm sure things will suddenly ...

Yes to the Slovenian PC-9, a beautiful display (although I guess that depends in the pilot as much as anything, so hopefully it's either the same one or an equally good one this year.
It's been the same pilot for 10 years IIRC.

I’d like to see the Swedes jazz up their Gripen in a new scheme or something, i’m pretty sure it’s been the same display for the past 13 odd years!
There are multiple display pilots this year. This year's display is coming from F21 - in recent years it has been the F7 display pilot at RIAT.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

Italy are always incredible with their contribution to RIAT. And with no Frecce Tricolori this year I can see them bringing their Typhoon demo. They've brought their Typhoon demo to every show since it's 2013 debut if I recall (someone correct me if I'm wrong...), whether the Frecce were around or ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The defining factor is going to be how much reheat this new display uses. The F-35B has a range of c1,035 mile - it's c. 240 miles there and back from RAF Marham in a straight line without accounting for fuel use in the hover, airspace transit and holding.etc.etc. That leaves in very basic terms 800...
