Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The RAF demo has been designed to be flow with a tank installed. In the rare instance it is removed, the nature of the PDA doesn’t Sean they can suddenly increase its aggressiveness

I’ve always also got the impression that the RAF hold back the aircraft’s true capabilities.

Stupid question (presumably) is that is there 2 displays each day (1 dirty 1 clean)? Or just a lucky dip as to which aircraft displays on the day you're attending?
I understand it is 1 display a day

Re: MCAS Miramar Airshow 27-29 September 2024

Evening all, looking at potentially doing this one and wondered if anyone has ever done it before without using a car. Was looking at staying in one of the hotels near the base which is about a 15 minute walk from the north gate and was hoping you’d be able to just walk then to one of the shuttle b...

Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

Evening show as always was an absolute belter. It’s what makes Friday worth it. Lots of big gaps hanging around though today. Now stuck in the Premium car park as there’s no martials and it’s a free for all. Edit: there were martials further down, suddenly traffic started moving after being stationa...

Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

Evening from the event. Today I can say this year’s Tutor display is great and the Reds are back on form, their Enid and Hanna split/pass is good as is the 60 break. The Reds dedicated the Spitfire formation to Sqn Ldr Long however the RAF cancelled the Typhoon display in respect of what happened to...

What would be the point of a recce given its only attending Midlands on the Friday.
Unless plans have changed and the Friday display isn’t a display - it’s the recce for the weekend.

I’ve seen no reports of a Recce today?

Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

I'm more concerned that it isn't a display but a display recce which usually involves both aircraft

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I wouldn’t expect a CV-22, to my knowledge they haven’t even flown again yet and they’ve got a tonne of pilot currency and training to catch up on - airshows will be the lowest thing on their agenda.

Re: RAF Display North America

I’ve never seen one before in the states or one advertised but I’m sure it’s happened. I’ve seen RAF fast jets on static though (Typhoon Miramar 2010, Typhoon Nellis 2014, F-35B Edwards 2022) and I saw the Army Air Corps Apache solo display at El Centro in 2015

Re: MCAS Miramar Airshow 27-29 September 2024

For those that have been before, is there likely to be more added to the static line up? Also is there any chance of extra participation in the flying program? Even if not a 'proper' full display, but a flypast etc It's actually a good point, whilst Miramar is the biggest US military airshow, their...

Tom does write a great article for AFM and I really recommend having a read of his interview with Peter.

I'm going to keep mentioning the AFM article until the same member stops reporting the posts as being off topic.

Airliner displays, two really stand out to me. The first being the United Airliners 767 at Middle Wallop 2000 - a missed approach and display over a grass airstrip! (Video says 2003 but 2000 was the last Wallop show) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2ZltkHlRnY The second being Yeovilton 2005 - my on...
