Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2017 - [Main Topic]

It looks like we might just get away with the rain tomorrow, BBC showing cloudy with sunny spells. It does look like it is going to be a bit breezy though, 15-20mph winds. Can all of the acts still display in those sort of winds?

Are we to assume the lineup is completed now? Website still says that discussions are ongoing with the French. One more to be added perhaps?

Sony Alpha A77 Mark II

Hi guys I currently own a Sony A58 and have a couple of A mount lenses. I'm looking to upgrade for the new season and am considering going for the Sony Alpha A77 Mark II. Does this seem like a sensible upgrade? Any users of this body out there care to share an opinion? I would also be open to altern...

No snaps I'm afraid, but I distinctly remember seeing how low they were flying!

Southport Air Show (Sunday)

Not the best day whether wise so didn't get that many good shots. A decent afternoon though and I thought the Typhoon display was one of the nosiest I've ever seen. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/606/21551095616_9857703e1e_b.jpg Swordfish by John Flanagan , on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/6...

Sunday at Blackpool

Decided to go to Blackpool on Sunday to get a bit more practice with the camera. Only my second attempt but had great fun! Nice little show actually, wish there were more in the North West. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/438/20307639420_00e8a36a8e_b.jpg DSC03465 by John Flanagan , on Flickr https://...

Re: Lens advice for Sony A58

Thanks guys. I decided to go for the Tamron SP 70-300 Di USD. Ordered yesterday from Amazon, arrived at 9.30 this morning. I think a trip to Blackpool Air Show tomorrow is in order to try it out!

Thanks for the advice guys. I really do like the look of the Tamron 16-300 Di II Vc PhD. Might save the pennies and splash out!

Re: Lens advice for Sony A58

Thanks for the info, that really helps. In terms of budget, at the moment the max is £300, hence the Tamron looking appealing

Lens advice for Sony A58

I recently bought a Sony A58 second hand and had my first attempt at airshow photography at RIAT. I was quite pleased with the results although I think that the lens I'm using probably isn't the best. I've just got a Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD Macro lens which came with the camera when I bought it...

Two Mig-29s?

Sorry if this is a daft question, but were there two different Mig-29s at the weekend? One performing on Sat and the other on Sun? I attended on Sat and it was definitely the '40' that was flying, but when I've been looking through photos of the weekend, it seems there is a slightly more colourful '...

Re: My first RIAT

Great start! I wish my first Airshow pictures were that good. Well you've made the right choice shooting Raw, lots of people start shooting JPEG, but now when you get skillful at PPing you can go back and improve these pictures. I don't know anything about Sony's software, but have you not tried th...

Re: My first RIAT

Haven't really used anything yet. I shot in RAW as it looks like that gives you more flexibility when processing. I've just batch processed all the of them to jpg using a trial of aftershot pro, but that's it so far. Need to get some skills in the photo processing department as well! It seems that l...

My first RIAT

Hi guys Not only my first RIAT, but also my very first attempt at airshow photography (so be nice )! My shots are no way near as polished as most others on here, they look a little washed out, but I had great fun whilst taking them! Also thanks to the guys that helped me choose a starter camera on a...

New camera + lens advice

Hi guys I posted about 12 months ago to ask a similar question to what I'm about to ask now - so apologies for that. I went to my first proper airshow at Cosford last year and really got the bug for wanting to get into aircraft photography. However priorities at the time meant that focus had to be e...

Re: Newbie - Getting Started

I've been doing some investigation over the weekend and was speaking to someone "in the know" and they reckon that a Nikon D3200 is the way to go, and I have to admit it did feel nice. Does this seem like a sensible choice? Can I go far wrong with that? Any owners out there share experienc...

Newbie - Getting Started

Hi guys I went to my first "proper" airshow at the weekend and Cosford - and wow, fantastic day out, loved it. However, the one thing I noticed when I was there was the noise of clicks every time a display was in progress - I've never seen so many people taking pictures. I thought "wh...
