Re: 1983 - 1990 Scans from Negatives
I can't tell you how many things I didn't shoot, due to not knowing the significance at the time. Film wasn't cheap, we had to prioritise, but being young and inexperienced didn't help. Just think of what you did capture though. :-) [/quote] How right you are...I'm still shaking my head for not phot...

Eastern discoveries 1993
Hello, 1993 saw the withdrawal of all the MiG-27 regiments formerly stationed in eastern Germany. In March 1993, I spent three days attending the departures of the Floggers from the 559 APIB (Finsterwalde), the 296 APIB (Grossenhain) and the 19 GvAPIB (Mirow-Lärz). The large group of photographers/s...

Re: Iranian wrecks and relics
One more pic (sorry for the quality, taken with my mobile) from the Holy Defence Museum at Hamedan; most planes seems to be mock-ups but the unfortunate Flogger seems to be a real one.. http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g385/orion11_2011/iran%202015/20151027_081554.jpg Thanks for looking, Marc

Re: Iranian wrecks and relics
In Iran, guard posts are everywhere.. But not far from the exhibition are some "interesting places"...like where they overhaul F-14 Tomcats for instance ! Don't usually look in this section , but really enjoyed something different. Are the guard post's just disused? or is there a military ...

Re: Iranian wrecks and relics
Hello XL446, No problem taking pictures with my full gear. The people at the location were very friendly and, like almost everywhere in Iran, were quite honoured to welcome a foreign guest.I was the only visitor at the time and could walk freely anywhere. Hi Orion2, thanks for the photos! I might 'h...

Hello Twinpin, No unfortunately I didn't see any Pioneer hulk while there. Marc Hi Orion Love the post! As it happens I'm trying to find any info on a 'lost' Iranian aircraft, I know it is pretty unlikely but I'd be interested to hear if you saw any trace of a Prestwick Pioneer hulk. The Iranian cus...

Hello, In october I went to Iran and could manage to take a look at some preserved planes there. Nothing earth-shatering but interesting nonetheless. At the Military Museum in the Sa'dabad complex are four planes in the open : F-84G Thunderjet http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g385/orion11_2011/ir...

Hello, In July I had the pleasure to join the 4Aviation Tour to Colombia. During this tour, a lot of different and iconic aircraft (both civil and military) were seen and photographed. The bases visits were very well organized and proved to be both interesting and informative. Here are some examples...

Eastern discoveries : 1992
1992 saw more opportunities to come closer to Russian hardware. The ZGV had contracted a German firm to organize several events at airbases. Other local events were also set up, mainly family days also open to the local communities. Grossenhain was one of four « airshows » organized that year. Here ...

With the public road running alongside and very close to the runway, you have an incredible sight of the base activities. http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g385/orion11_2011/japon%202014/Omura/IMG_493...

Last time we were also moved away from the crash gate on the west side. On previous visits the locals used to congregate right by it, now they kept back away long the access road. No idea if that was a legacy because of the protests which occurred when the Ospreys were delivered there, or if that i...

Japan 2014 : Kanoya
Hello all, Home of the helicopter training for the JMSDF, Kanoya offers a lot of opportunities for viewing and photographing planes. The most interesting spot gives an unobstructed view of the apron, with helos hovering very closely ! Lots of different types makes this base a "must". http:...
