Re: Wellesbourne Vulcan incident

They have been very fortunate and shows the risks of operating a complex aircraft. As someone who has planned and been on board for a fair few accel-stops myself, a few things spring to mind. It is not a high speed taxi. It is much more than that and needs to be prepared almost as a flight would be...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

I suppose that technically the money that has been donated towards the now defunct new hangar should be offered back to those who donated it as it has not been used for the purpose it was donated for. If the people state that it can be used to help 558's future, or for that matter the Canberra (whi...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

Sunday 18th September is the next taxi run of XM655 at Wellesbourne. Honestly it’s pretty amazing how much the guys there and at Southend can do with such a limited budget/resources compared to XH558… Yes it is and I have first hand experience because I worked on 655 from 1994 until 2011 ended up a...

Re: Vulcan XH558 to leave Doncaster, possible ferry flight

We can all speculate to what will and how it will happen but without shed loads of money nothing will happen and it will end up in the bin. You can guarantee it is going to cost a lot of money to move XH558 regardless of whether that is in the air or on the ground. The crazy thing is, that 'only' a...

Re: XH558 News

Well we all knew this was coming it was just a case of when. The airport should take on the airframe and organise a team of volunteers to raise funds to look after it without all the VTS baggage as the other two Vulcan groups do.

Blimey the last time I went to Hendon you walked around on blue carpet tiles rather than a painted concrete floor.

Re: Shackleton WR963 - [Official Topic]

It's a shame the project has come to this and as for flying the shack I really don't think it will ever happen unless its taken over by a professional organisation with lots of money and resource. I think they should drop the return to flight dream and concentrate on just preserving the aircraft and...

I think the last time I went around Hendon you walked on blue carpet tiles but that was some years ago. Seems to of lost its atmosphere looking at the video.

We normally fly to Australia once a year and usually fly Singapore airlines and so far we have not had any issues. We fly to Brisbane on Friday via Hong Hong with BA and Qantas so it will be good to compare.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I'd imagine you would be looking at a seven figure sum to move a Vulcan and then rebuild it to a fit enough state to be able to run, fast taxi in its new home. The owner of 655 has according to the social media rumour mill said the plan for 655 is for it be on display at the planned new development...

Re: XH558 wrong doors

When the Vulcan tanker fleet was decommissioned 558 was flown to Marham to go on the fire dump. The HDU was removed and the back end probably left open with no doors as there was no point refitting any. XH560 was going to replace XL426 on the VDF but was found to be lacking hours before a major was ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I very much doubt the airframe would be fit for anything other than static display if its dismantled and moved by road. Take a look at Vulcans in camera and look at XL318 being dismantled for road transport you have to split the main fuselage section which would compromise the structural integrity ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

As I've said before the trust needs to be wound up and the aircraft handed over to a purely volunteer based organisation. Most of the remaining Vulcan fleet have been out doors for decades so trying to raise millions for a hangar in my view is nonsense and should be abandoned with the focus being co...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I was involved with 655 from the early 90's until 2011 and have to say there was always good mutual support between all of the Vulcan operators and museums, everyone was happy to help each other if they could.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Or let the other Vulcan groups have first refusal: the VttST advertises its aims as promoting Vulcan's and cold war aircraft after all, so why not support the other running Vulcans before profiting from the gifted spare parts. As far as I know, this has already happened. If this is the case it woul...
