How much of the advertised display managed to take part? Weather is looking similar (wind wise) tomorrow so interested to know how much of a display was managed.

Backpedaling already. McDonald's and Pret 'not included' in new table service rules https://www.bbc.com/news/business-54268918 But it makes sense. I'd rather they made changes to help it to work, instead of just bulldozing on. In McDonalds/Pret etc, you go in, queue up (in a socially distanced way)...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Again what's the difference between closing bars etc at 10pm and 11pm?? Not a great deal, but at the weekends pubs/bars are open until 1am, so that may stop people drinking too much for too long, and we know what happens to social distancing by that time. As for table service, it won't make too muc...

Re: Covid casualties - British Airways B.747s at Kemble

Negus aircraft still at LHR. Of the 3 retro's, the BOAC one has the best chance (though still not a very good one) of further work, being one of the youngest in the fleet. Landor is the oldest one that was still in BA service, with the Negus one not far behind. The RR engines are probably more of a ...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Mostly agree with all that FGR2, but on the subject of testing, the UK has carried out more tests than any other country in Europe*. Quite a surprising statistic after our disastrous start. Are other countries having the same issues as us, or is it in this country far too many people are going for t...

I did see a graph somewhere, can't remember where or if it was accurate, that showed positive covid tests being about 40% at the peak, to well into single figures now.

Think he is saying an increase in testing will give an increase in positive results, even if some of those being tested don't even feel ill. Compared to the beginning of this, when the only tests were carried out in hospital when people were actually feeling ill. Daily cases were predicted to be ove...

Re: BA retires entire Boeing 747 fleet

I'd hazard a guess that most of them will be scrapped where they are now (Kemble, Teruel, Cardiff*) with the exception of the Heathrow ones which will gradually be returned to airworthiness and flown out over the next few weeks. *Some of these may go elsewhere for scrap due to the large number of th...

I must say, today was brilliant. Organisation was spot on, so congrats to all at shuttleworth for putting on a great event. I arrived at half 10 and was at the front of the fourth (!) row of the holding field. When parked, I was positioned a few rows back from where I would normally sit (on the bend...

If it's a commercial venture, I can't see the CAA being too happy about that!

Re: Not The Way To Social Distance at Airports

Fair play to the person who jumped out then tried to stop the moving aircraft once in full 'flight'. Sorry, but he's a bit of a muppet. Once an aircraft starts going like that, there's no stopping it apart from applying the brakes. Chocks will only slow it down as it would just jump them. All he (a...

The aircraft is in for its scheduled maintenance overhaul which will require a complete strip and repaint, the cost is a total of £900,000 all in, it has already been budgeted for and is inline with planned works. All the BS about just the paint being £900,000 is just the press making the weak of m...

Re: Boris Force One?

The cost may well be quoted to be £900,000, however ALL aircraft must undergo a full repaint every X number of years. (Figure varies, generally every 5 to 10 years). So this one is probably due a respray anyway. The figure we really need is how much extra this is going to cost, compared to painting ...

Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to just lease a BA jet since it'll probably look basically the same?
A BA jet (& crew) may not always be available (not an issue at the minute though!). I'd also expect a certain Mr Branson to be up in arms about it as well.

The football situation isn't simple now, but it should have been. My main issue is there are employees of some clubs being furloughed (and therefore being funded by the taxpayer), whilst the players are unaffected. If said clubs had all done an internal deal in private, with players taking a (% wise...

Aircraft can be parked up for up to a week with no issues. Some of the aircraft you see parked up will be rotated with ones that are still flying so they are not stored for too long at one time. Short-term storage will involve starting the engines, running the air con packs and other systems, jackin...

That leads me onto another question if all these airlines are grounding all these aircraft. At a total guess, since currency requ...

Re: Will air shows be cancelled because of coronavirus

OW airshows are much more self-contained, with the ability to use home based assets only. However, aside from the usual reasons for cancellations at the moment, they will still need the road closed. I expect that the council/police will have better things to do somehow.
