Re: Fairford NOTAM

Pretty certain i caught a glimpse of a low C-5 heading toward Fairford over Gloucester at 0730 today on way to work, quite distant but looked too big to be a C-17.

Re: The FR24/PlanePlotter Thread

A very loud Bell UH-1 type with what i think was a Hughes 500 heading south just rattled the windows of my home in Quedgeley Glos. Sounded lovely, not something i see everyday?.

Re: 4 Spits "i think" over Gloucester.

Wow, thankyou for that. I did wonder that they looked slightly different but being fairly high up it was hard to make a proper id. Also the sound was not as you would expect from 4 RR merlins, so it was a thunderbolt, mustang, spitfire and a Me-109, wished i could have got a photo of them now.

Re: Tornado final sightings

While sat in my house just now in Quedgeley Gloucestershire, i heard the VERY unusual (for this area) sound of a approaching fast jet, i ran out into the back garden just as a Tornado streaked right over my house very low banking to the left heading southeast. Wonderful sight. Goodbye old friend Edi...

Re: Do you get views of passing aircraft where you live?

Apart from high altitude civil stuff and Iight aircraft from nearby Staverton not much of interest over my part of Gloucestershire. Very little in the way of military fast jets though C-17 and Atlas are occasionally seen at low level coming and going from Brize and very occasionally low level US stu...

Re: The FR24/PlanePlotter Thread

A blacked out Chinook with what I'm sure was a V-22 following just passed very low over Quedgeley, Gloucester heading NW. US Army MH-47G? Blacked out meaning no navigation lights on, another aircraft with lights on following close behind, didnt sound like a Chinook more like a V-22 hard to decipher...

Re: Will the classic jets ever return?

Hope we will get a revival but i somewhat doubt it, i found it very sad that this year being the RAFs centenary there was little if any old jets that has been part of the RAF for over 70 of there 100 years. No meteors, hunters, canberras, not even a tornado display bearing in mind the tornado is pro...

Re: Air defence Hawks?

Remember hawks having a emergency point defence role in the 80s, quite a few if i remember correctly was wired up for sidewinders and even painted in air defence grey. In the event they was needed operationally instructors would pilot them and would have worked with tornado F-3s who would act as a r...

Re: RAF E-3D ?

According to a RAF E-3 crew member i was talking to on board the aircraft at RIAT this summer a decision has yet to be made. He told me the next defence review will reveal either a major upgrade for the fleet or replacement with something like the wedgetail.

A hunter!. I belive only a handful of buccaneers had dual controls so they used hawker hunters as trainers for the bucc fleet.
