Re: 48hr Photo Comp: Scandinavia
Finland AF F18A Just a note, the Finnish F18's are C models. In fact, Finland received the last of the legacy Hornets from the production line. They have been consistently updated and are now quite a unique spec, and far more capable than originally expected. We will be sad to see them phased out o...

Re: Request time and some fun. RIAT 2021
Assuming this is a "dream/fantasy" list, I would like to request a flying display from Art Nalls Sea Harrier. Not sure if Art still operates it, but its out there somewhere. And I'd like him to apply the 899 squadron motif to the Fin beforehand. If not that, I would like a flying display from the on...

Re: Nikon Z5 Z6
That's why I'm looking at Nikon as I can get an adaptor for all my lenses that I have now. I'm looking at making the same move, from the same camera. I'd like to stick with what I know, i.e. Nikon, but the Z series isn't really aimed at action/sports. Helluva portrait or street camera though. I've ...

Re: Kauhava Airshow Finland August 2020
Finally, to wrap up this airshow weekend, I went along to the airfield on the Monday morning to catch the departing aircraft. Unfortunately, 9am was a little too late and I missed the fast jets which left surprisingly early. However there was still a lot of movements throughout the day. Attendance w...

Re: Kauhava Airshow Finland August 2020
So, on to Saturday and the first of the two public air show days. No press nonsense to distract, and although restricted a little bit in where we could view from, we were still able to have the camera skyward for the whole day, and also got the chance to walk the flightline for some closer to the ac...

Re: Kauhava Airshow Finland August 2020
Great to see shots from an international air show. Interested to know what Covid19 mitigation’s are in place — one way systems, face masks? Any social distancing being enforced ? Basically none, I wore a mask and the few international exhibition staff did too, but practically none of the public did...

Re: Kauhava Airshow Finland August 2020
Continuing on from yesterdays post, Friday was more arrivals and the press day. I arrived in the morning to find the Finnish Hornets being maintained and maneuvered into position. They are still a great looking aircraft. https://i.postimg.cc/k5vVXfsR/DSC-2609.jpg I always enjoy shots that include so...

Kauhava Airshow Finland August 2020
Finland seems to have resisted the worst of the epidemic, and despite a postponement from earlier in the summer, were still able to host an airshow this year. Located at the Kauhava airbase in South Ostrobothnia, the airshow is aimed to highlight the role that Kauhava used to play as the Finnish air...

Yea but it’s just local assets, same as every small show in Finland, plus it’s a 10hr round trip for me. I’ll tough it out till Kauhava

Re: Kauhava Air Show 29/30 August
Also as an aside, this year is the last summer before Finland makes their decision on their HX purchase, a requirement for 63 fighters. Each successive year previously has seen a ramping up of sales pitches from the contenders. So it’s in the big boys interest to make an effort to turn up. Hopefully...

Re: Finnish Air Force gets a minor makeover
Bit confused by the timing of this article. The non swastika insignia has been officially used for years now. Swastikas came off aircraft after WW2 and units still have them on their flags. So this is old news. However, some Finnish airforce news is: The last Fokker F27 has been put on display insid...

Yeovilton Live Stream 11/07/20
I will be pining for Yeovilton this weekend. However the organisers have organised a livestream event the same day from 1100-1700Uk time via their social media channels. It will be interviews, stories and highlights of the best displays from years past. Of course its not the real thing but I think t...

Re: Classic British Jets Collection
If it’s too much to learn what everyone else has managed to learn don’t bother. I hope your teams approach to conserving aircraft isn’t as lazy as your approach to marketing. “I want to restore old jets” “You’ll have to learn how to restore old jets then” “That’s overly complicated. Someone else sho...

Re: Indian Air Force Museum, Delhi
That’s a lovely set Andy, thank you. I was fortunate enough to spend some time at HAL in Bangalore and visited their fine museum but never made it to Delhi. I was especially happy to see the shot of the B-24 Liberator. The Indian B-24s have a wonderful story. India was unable to buy bombers during t...

Finnish HX fighter procurement flight testing
Competitors in the race to replace Finland's fleet of 64 Hornets are invited to conduct flight testing over January/February. The testing is to compare reality with the data and specifications previously given by the competitors. This information will then go into virtual simulations over the next y...

Re: Local light aircraft experience flights
This is an interesting topic. As usual, I favour the DIY method. Find your nearest flying club or civilian airfield. Go there and ask someone. Guys who fly understand the appeal, and always appreciate petrol money. To keep your flying insurance valid, all new pilots are required to fly a minimum num...

We’ve had a bag by the door for years. It’s just a case of preparation, even if it’s just for something as simple as your house burning down. Hope it never comes in useful.
