Re: Kings Coronation flypast?

They all have to fly below 1000' at some point. RAFAT probably have more currency in flying large formations though.

So I wonder why the RAFAT can still take part but not other elements?
They're probably more confident about being able to starburst without hitting each other if they suddenly find themselves in IMC at 1000'

Edit: They'll probably show up better against the grey background too...

Re: Kings Coronation flypast?

They're certainly trying pretty hard. Juno did a run along the Mall a while ago and is now orbiting ~1000' over Walthamstow.

Heathrow's operating fine, they could just spread out and do it under IFR. Might take a while though...

I wonder if they might delay it as weather is supposed to improve slightly by late afternoon?
They can't delay it very much without the main man missing it; by my calculations, if he leaves much after 5pm he'll miss his purple airspace booking.

It did occur to me that "false landing" would be a pretty good description of some of my early (and not so early) attempts to nail the round out...

Re: Sea Fury forced landing in Harston, Cambs.

The term 'False Landing' seems to have come from an IWM Press Statement so presumably taken as an accurate description of what happened. Can't blame the journalist for that, then, but you'd have thought whoever released the IWM Press Statement could do better! I just searched "false landing&qu...

Re: Sea Fury forced landing in Harston, Cambs.

To be fair, I doubt many of us would do a good job of writing a news article, in a very short timescale, about something we knew nothing about. Given the repeated reference to a "false landing", I suspect the journalist has at least made the effort to have a phone conversation with someone...

Re: Airline brinksmanship over Covid-19

They say book all your hols through a proper tour company but it can work out much more expensive than building your own package And that's one reason why; in addition to all the margins and mark-ups, you're also paying the operator to absorb a lot of the financial risk. Like you, I book all my hol...

Re: Airline brinksmanship over Covid-19

The perils of dealing with small operators. It's not just small operators; I have a return Eurotunnel trip that I booked last Summer (because I like to plan ahead). They're allowing me to rebook, but only within a year of the date on which I made the original booking (as opposed to within a year of...

I don't mean they landed at Glasgow. Can't find any examples now, but check out this Virgin flight on Tuesday:

On a related topic: On FR24 there have been quite a few BA aircraft flown from LHR-Bournemouth via a turnpoint in the vicinity of Glasgow; also saw a Virgin aircraft doing something similar, though I didn't see where it ended up. Anyone know why?

I'd completely forgotten: "Plane on fire" seen from the school playing fields - subsequently identified by a tame adult as an F-111 doing its thing. And not quite seen, but: Woken at a very antisocial hour by a number of VERY loud fast jets passing overhead at what sounded like quite low l...

Re: Aircraft seen randomly at unexpected but most welcome ti

A couple of weeks ago I was in the Lake District photographing Blea tarn in Langdale. I heard jet noise and cursed my luck for not being over at Thirlmere, Then from below up popped a Hawk T2 in a turn overhead which then dived back down into the valley in a Langdale loop. Really dynamic flying and...

Are you thinking of an aircraft big enough to take all of you at once, or would a 2-seater do the job? Bicester Gliding Club is local to you, and does air experience flights in motor gliders.

Traffic management seemed to work pretty well on Saturday. As expected, there was a significant exodus after the Red Arrows; after watching the Strikemaster and Blades I probably only dithered around for another 30 mins or so before leaving, and was able to drive straight out of the car park onto cl...
