Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I installed the Wetherspoons app today which comes with its own Track and Trace; it's specific to the pub you visit and apart from that doesn't seem to do much apart from provide a phone version of the paper form you have to fill in otherwise. The place was filling up at 1730 I certainly won't be go...

Re: Your holiday plans

with another 4 countries added to the UK quarantine list yesterday I think the chances that anyone will be able to go to their intended destination abroad next year or even the year after are diminishing. I think the whole flawed travel corridor idea was to allow people in the UK to take their booke...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

do McDonalds and other non licenced premises still have to close at 22.00? I think the facility will have to close it's doors at 10 but will still be able to deliver. So, if your local Macs uses the local delivery service you'll be able to stock up on your rancid chips and artery clogging milkshake...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I have this saved as favourites https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-51235105 The graph for Europe makes for scary reading; the UK were level with Italy 2 weeks ago. The UK's growth is steeper than Spain when that country started rising again, but less steep than France. It looks like we are certain to ...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

So what difference will all this make? (in England only) Office workers are being told to work from home again if possible, I never went back (at least no more than 1 / 2 days a week and only if required) I know of a lot of people in my position. Everyone else doesn't have a lot of choice now furlou...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Again what's the difference between closing bars etc at 10pm and 11pm?? not a lot but table service only with police dishing out fines may help. Pubs aren't geared up for table service as any visit to Spoons will testify, more staff are having to take drinks to tables for people using the app rathe...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Can anyone explain why the gov have been using Three word slogans - why Three words not Two or Four always Three. Why have the gov said Six people can meet up why not Five or Four or Seven - why Six. why do they sell eggs in 6s in the EU / UK / EAA when we are supposed to be metric? and also why ar...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I think the government are panicking and realising that people are not going to take any notice of them anymore, so the reason they wheeled out the medical advisors to ramp up some fear ahead of an announcement. And it appears that's exactly what's going to happen, PMBJ is making a statement on the...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

a very sobering broadcast just now from Whitty and Valance; very factual and no ministers / PMBJ present either. If anyone missed it here are the main points the UK will face more than 200 Covid deaths per day by mid November if the virus continues to spread as now, Vallance said. He said: At the mo...

Re PMBJ's speech yesterday, Why is it inevitable that the UK is entering a second wave because of the other countries in Europe? haven't we effectively closed our borders with those high infection states? For it to be successful it relies on people keeping to the 14 day self isolation though. Some ...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Just read the new rules for the NE of England. They all seem quite sensible apart from pubs having to shut 2200-0600; that is just crazy! they should be closing much earlier Sadly the whole World is realising that although total lockdown worked for a while it cannot be re-imposed at the expense of t...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

If you book a test through the NHS do you get both tests or just a test to see if you have it now? I think you just get the PCR test looking for the virus in the swab. The antibody test is more for surveillance studies to check how many of the population have been exposed rather than infected (assu...

Re: The UKAR politics thread

I agree with Mooshie that any border between NI / GB or NI / ROI is unworkable but that's what the EU demanded to protect their single market. It will be up to the Irish Government to erect and pay for it I assume (like in the Balkans?)

Re: Airline brinksmanship over Covid-19

From now on I'm taking the Simon Calder approach, "a boarding pass is just a raffle ticket" and book at very short notice (ie after 0400 on Saturday if possible) Low bookings make these a realistic option at the moment. Annoyingly after having to book to fly back BA to LHR the flights to LGW via eas...

Re: Your holiday plans

Having spent a week in Italy with no internet I watched BBC World News (also Al Jazeera / France 24 in English) so didn't know if I'd be required to quarantine until the day before I came back to the UK. I was astounded to see that the 7 days figure (20 cases/100000 being the threshold above which q...

Having been told we could carry holiday over as per the government guidelines I've now been told I've got to take it all before the end of the year. Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

So you can’t simply expect people to take their contracted annual leave and simply stay at home and do nothing with it. It wont work. That's exactly what my NHS Trust is doing. If I have already booked leave and then can't go where I was intending they are refusing to cancel the booked leave. They ...

Yes, Welsh and Scots have to go home and quarantine even if landing in England.
presumably they can spend 14 days in England before going back to Wales or Scotland and avoid quarantine? maybe even get their dog brought over the border too?

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

Quarantine works a lot better than most restrictions in that they have your number and address and can call round to check up on you 24/7 and slap you with a £1000 fine if you don't comply. A bit like a TV licence. Apparently in Australia they take you to a hotel and keep you there for 14 days at yo...
