Re: Vintage Air Day Sun 6th Sep
Lovely vintage line-up there! On the ticket front, it's only more costly than a "normal" Old Warden show if you go alone. Two occupants = £25, which is less than standard entry. As Mike says, it's a discounted price regardless of whether you enter two, three or four up. Car of four for £22...

Great to see this continue! I've been flat out on other things and haven't had a chance to add anything myself, but will give it a go this weekend. It's largely been covered by Dave and Ben, though.

These are pretty awesome. I had no idea a Sea Harrier had operated from Old Warden! The best variant, too.
I wondered how long you'd take to comment.

Re: Will air shows be cancelled because of coronavirus
I actually feel the media aren't, with a couple of exceptions, being particularly sensationalist about the whole thing. It's becoming clearer day by day that this is going to be huge . I can't see how anyone can still be banging the "it's no worse than seasonal flu [it's been said today that it...

Re: UPDATED 07.02 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1997*
I have it in mind that it was something "CAA" related - insurance, DAs, something like that - but where and when that was reported, I don't know. I was certainly aware of it at the show itself, so maybe it had been reported in advance (or on commentary at the event, but that seems less lik...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
And we're back! Having wrapped one article today, I found some time to knock this one up this evening. My next job is to incorporate other people's insight into the original post, and update that up to 1997, but that will have to wait. Please also accept that this is a fairly candid commentary, a li...

Must admit I'm struggling to find time to wrap 1997 at the minute, but once I've finished the articles I'm working on I'll dive right back in (probably another couple of weeks). Dave, if you complete your watch of the 1997 footage and want to get things underway, by all means do! I'm not precious ab...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
With a bit of digging and thought I should be able to add some more detail to the pilot list for 1994. I'm also trying to persuade my brother to sign up and contribute here, as he has an amazing memory for these shows. He's also pointed out that Mark Hanna missed FL94 as he was flying the T-33 at Ye...

Historic aviation art discussion
As an ardent collector of aviation prints, I thought a discussion thread on the topic might generate some interest. I have a fairly large and varied collection bought from the major galleries and from the secondary market, consisting of work by Robert Taylor, Nicolas Trudgian, Gil Cohen, Anthony Cow...

Re: MCAS Miramar Air Show 2019
Nice smattering of historics there. The Wildcat looks so good in its new scheme (and note the CAF logo has been removed from beneath the cockpit). A vast improvement on the awful camo it wore for years, and a big draw (for me anyway!) for May's Chino show. Also good to see the Blue Angels Bearcat ou...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
Fantastic stuff! Certainly a few pilots my brother and I can clarify over the weekend. I'll look into the Lysander question, but I want to say it was Sabena's that flew, and it would very likely have been Jean-Michel Legrand (who wrote a book on the type). I believe it went on to Fairford for IAT 95...

Re: Current aircraft being restored to flight
Is there a reputable source for all three of those G-registered Tempests being restored to flight, besides Scramble apparently reporting it and a Facebook group running it as news? The Mk.V is also a Sabre-powered variant, which makes the claim all the more dubious. Flypast's recent Tempest article ...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
Excellent work! I think it was in France in 1994 to 1997/8 (in AVG markings as Mike says; previously it was RAF desert camo iirc), but would need clarification of that. It was definitely back with TFC for 1998. I recall it was traded (that was what was published in the magazines at the time, so don'...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
On the Firefly point, my own family photographs of the flightline walk show it was there in 1995. When I have a chance I'll consult the official video to see where it (and, presumably, the Swordfish) placed in the flying programme. As an aside, can anyone confirm how the Joker slot worked in 1996? T...

Re: UPDATED 08.01 - Flying Legends retrospective - *1996*
Please do share, Dave - I'd be very interested in a definitive list! I've seen a few checklists around online, but nothing I'd really consider as definitive. Good point on the RNHF aeroplanes - I've just found what alleges to be a photograph taken at FL95 of the Firefly, but I'd need to check the of...

1996 The event The Saturday of Flying Legends 1996 is widely regarded as the event’s pinnacle, and a defining moment in the present day historic aircraft movement. The breadth and depth of the line-up was superb, and the flying displays themselves lived up to the line-up’s promise. And it all playe...

Really interesting post there, adding fuel to a question that's been asked numerous times in recent years. 1995 The event Flying Legends 1995 solidified the event as a must-see in the vintage aviation aficionados’ calendars. It built on the concept of the 1994 show, expanding the flying programme significantly and honing the multi-aircraft set-pieces it became known for. The flying was largely fantastic...
