Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Regarding low drag, sort of. Imagine a space rocket going vertically up - low drag. Now angle it at 20 degrees to the airflow - is it still low drag? Yes. Almost, have another go. And as you'll remember from my own quote, you could achieve the same "look how little difference it makes!" b...

No, I'd say it'd be pretty pointless and worth about as much as none. Might as well just be on static and get it on the Monday.
Best cancel the B-1 / B-52 / U2 / Beluga displays then.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

On paper, an A2A loadout will have minimal effect on a display performance. While they're not featherweight missiles, by definition aerodynamically they're extremely low drag and high-g, so they shouldn't effect what the aircraft can do very much at all, bar a weight penalty (which could be equally...

It will be fascinating to compare the 2 F-15 displays - clean and loaded - to see if there is any discernible difference; from what everyone's saying there won't be.
If you watch the online video of the St Louis display the clean jet has a higher pitch rate which is about what you'd expect.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Agree with the comments. Very, very nice. This year's tattoo is looking like an absolute classic. Numerous artistically good special schemes (and a few so so); an impressive F-16 line including several rare nations; a debut factory demo from an advanced fighter; plenty of afterburner action; classic...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

Also Turkish Aerospace Hürjet will be flying at Farnborough. Not on my wishlist so much, but I wonder if anyone else would appreciate seeing it? Me for one. It'd be another new type to tick off. Also at Farnborough will be a flying KC-390. IMO a nice looking heavy which would provide a bit of contr...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The tooled up F15 looks the business and the rapid pitch manoeuvres should fluff up nicely in the damp Fairford sky. Looks like they're executed from quite low altitude too meaning there's going to be some great photo opportunities.

Do you do that for all fighters and transports then? So a KC-10 is just like a Hercules or a B-52 becomes a Strike Eagle. Interesting.
Nope, but if you squint at the F35A, it can become an F22. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Maybe a bit too late for this year, but the German Air Force A350 looks classy. Having had the A340 attend before, it be nice to see it's successor in the static park.
If you squint at the A319 that's coming, it looks just like their A350. Similar livery, fewer windows.

That's the day their prospective customers will be there. Would have been amazed if they didn't display all days. Will be interesting to see if they tool it up. Thursday could see a practice in both configs.

A taste of what to expect from the RCAF CF-188 in July.
Nice routine. Not convinced about the livery. Would be nice if the Herc was part of the RIAT routine but not expecting it.

Without going into specific instances, what are some of the reasons an ongoing country fails to attend? Much effort must be expended on both sides for something to not materialise. I can't be the only one who makes a prayer and does a 'rain dance' when they see a juicy nation - perhaps rain dance wa...

With Farnborough providing one RIAT participant (TBC), could there be any other dividends? Perhaps a Lockheed Martin demo using a LH jet?

Typhoon is an afternoon display now. No carrots. Do you know what time the typhoon is due to fly yet ? Looks like this year RIAT has something for everyone. Will be a first for a fbw F15 for me and having a tp throw it around will be a real treat. 1,305 hrs until I arrive at Fairford, not that I'm counting or anything.

The article is about RIAT 2024 so very much 'on-topic'. Even the more generic F-35 article is about a display that is attending RIAT and what to expect in July.

Well, with the weather the way it has been over the past 6 months or so, it will all likely be cancelled due to water-logged fields....................... I have it on good authority that the weather will be superb. Express or Mail? Guardian. I know, must be a load of rubbish but one can hope.
