Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)

Typhoon is an afternoon display now. No carrots. Do you know what time the typhoon is due to fly yet ? Thanks I don't have an exact time but have been led to believe its towards the end of the scheduled flying display. My guess is just before the Reds who will close that part of the show - but only...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Looks like this year RIAT has something for everyone. Will be a first for a fbw F15 for me and having a tp throw it around will be a real treat. 1,305 hrs until I arrive at Fairford, not that I'm counting or anything.

New trousers needed!
Did well to get that down in more or less one piece. Very unpleasant.
Exceptional flying with a dollop of luck.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The article is about RIAT 2024 so very much 'on-topic'. Even the more generic F-35 article is about a display that is attending RIAT and what to expect in July.

Just be impressed he understands what all those whistles and screeches mean. Must bring a whole new experience to the hovering display.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

I agree in principle certainly, but there's no doubt that for many of the air forces mentioned, the value in attending RIAT is not in hopefully getting something back from the UK but in the being at the same show on the biggest military stage among many other countries all there for the same purpos...

Well, with the weather the way it has been over the past 6 months or so, it will all likely be cancelled due to water-logged fields....................... I have it on good authority that the weather will be superb. Express or Mail? Guardian. I know, must be a load of rubbish but one can hope.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Not sure where to put this, but as it's about confirmed participants....I wonder if it's possible (time / air space allowing) to have the 4 RNLAF F-16s do a low-ish flypast together on departures day? As it's effectively their farewell to an event they've always attended strongly while in-service? ...

I think you're reading a bit too much into it. You can read it so differently; or is this the level we're at now by judging the grammar used by DBH? You're going to have to be *slightly* more specific verreli 🙃🧐 The comment was about grammar. As for today's update, on first read, it was a bit under...

Happy to be proven wrong, but I doubt that changes to the Chief of Air Staff had anything to do with it. Lets just agree that if this is an indication of what the Knighton era brings, it will be great for enthusiasts. And IMO, the RAF as a whole. Just 39 days to Midlands Air Fest and a debut for th...

I've been a bit critical over the last few years about the RAF approach to history and marking significant events but since Wokey Wigston moved on, things are definitely improving. Squadron markings are returning to aircraft and now this. AWESOME. Congrats to all involved. Can't wait to see it in th...

Just don't expect to be first in and you'll be fine. Base security will be super courteous, you'll stand in a queue, pass a few details and you're away, free to mingle with all the locals. The one thing I would highlight, when they play the Star Spangle Banner the place will come to a respectful sta...

Sorry, had to have a nibble on that comment. As you've said; variety is the spice of life and there's more to military aviation than just fast jets! Or preferably they could bring something altogether better like [...] T-41 [...] Agreed, the Kaan is incredibly ugly and really just looks like a bad F-22 ripoff, I'd prefer the named aircraft in this list over the Kaan anyday! Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see an A-10 one last time too, if only to reminisce about seeing them come over the house at 100ft and strafing at Donna Nook - the good old days. I must just like ugly aircraft - not a big fan of Fat Amy though.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

The Kaan has just flown so yes, they're unlikely but this isn't a wish list for nothing. The Boramae has been flying since 2022 with 6 aircraft flying so more possible but are half way round the world. Good job this is a wish list. The only other thing I'd like from Turkey is to see the Turkish Star...
