Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)
Would be great to see the Typhoon at dusk but will be late afternoon no doubt Quote from the email I was sent... "On Friday as part of the NIGHTFIRE show, the mighty RAF front line fighter, the Typhoon will put in a guest appearance with his full noise, full afterburner show. The Red Arrows an...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
It is a wish list... realistically a couple of Spang or Aviano F16's must be all we can hope for which, as the wild weasel version, is another F16 variant for the line.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
I think a few would like to see one or two Nellis Aggressor F16's in the line up, me included. Would be fantastic if they arrived on Friday and did a few missed approaches.

Re: Pacific Airshow 2024, Huntington Beach, California Oct 4-6th
I always fly into San Francisco, hire a car and drive. Flight is then only c.£500. It's a LONG flight for a weekend though and there's plenty to see and do over there. Weather is always el-scorchio when I go. I'm also far more respectful of the hosts then seems to be the sentiment above. It's their ...

Everything crossed for that one. What an aircraft! Top of its game for 4 decades and still not bettered.ThatDutchDude wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar 2024, 7:30 pmBig wish, but with the pretty large gap it'd be amazing to see the 10C demo down in the UK for the final time before they stop with their routine

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Another nice EU scheme! Yep, the Italians, Germans, French et al all seem to be able to turn on the style when it comes to tarting up their aircraft. The RAF on the other hand remove any form of historical link and slap a poorly designed sticker on a handful of aircraft to mark one of the most sign...

Re: South West USA 2024
Yes, it's a great airshow and highly recommended. The year I went there was a great variety of aircraft, some of which I wasn't expecting prior to the event (ghost aggressor full display for example). The sun isn't well placed for photography, but hey, it's on the beach. It's a very popular event. G...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
... but the possibility of being given some info before most others is a major reason for making the effort to attend. Fair comment. It's not just the participant info though. Much of what's discussed is of interest to anyone who's more than a casual attendee of the event. There should be no reason...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
I tend to agree. Not all FRIAT can travel to the meeting (especially those that work or live in the bleak North) and for those that do attend, they get the privilege of knowing before others, even if only for a few hours. Any embargo doesn't make sense. It makes no difference to the event if a few f...

Re: Ace ?
Does it matter? Obviously yes to some or it wouldn't be a 'thing'. Does it matter to me? Well, its not going to change my life one way or another. As for Tommy's point about controlled flight into terrain. Comes back to the skill question. My take is that becoming an 'ace' became a 'thing' because ...

Re: Ace ?
I’d always understood the term to mean shooting down an enemy aircraft in combat, rather than killing a pilot. It's always been about killing the aircraft and yes, you're correct, in many cases the pilot bailed out or more recently ejected from the stricken aircraft. The manned comment stems more f...

Re: Ace ?
No indication of how the kill was performed (guns/missiles) or circumstances but it would be high probability it wasn't manoeuvring. As for the speed comment, perhaps that's why the Harrier was user for the intercept?

Ace ?
A USMC pilot has become the first US fighter ace since the end of the Vietnam war. He shot down 7 drones in his Harrier.
Question is, although technically combat kills, if an aircraft is unmanned and flying straight and level, does this count? Officially the answer is yes, but what do you think?

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
That the Swiss Air Force is ongoing doesn't necessarily mean it is for the PS. It could also be for the Hornet, Super Puma or PC-7 team, or for static aircraft (wasn't there a request in the wish list for swiss operational F-5Es on static?) Cancelling their own show(s) then sending display aircraft...

Well there is a piston engined military schemed Tracker flying at an airshow this weekend. One of many stars that will be flying! Such as a Neptune, Caribou and Consellation. Last time I checked, Australia is quite a distance from Gloucestershire... An inverted flying Tracker. Nice. Happy for it to...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
Trouble with the Gripen its more of a "wet fart and cigarette lighter not working" than an F-111 proper jalfrezi dump and burn and give it 20 minutes. Difficult to catch in pictures. After seeing a few videos recently of the F111 dump and burn, you are right, it does kind of make a mocker...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
They do seem to be regulars of late. Since most Gripen displays started to do the dump and burn, the more Gripen's the better. I'm still trying to get a good shot despite many attempts.
