Re: Midlands Air Festival 2024 (31 May - 2 June)
The display line is due south with crowd centre being marked by this cleared path of trees. https://maps.app.goo.gl/yY6bz8AP6tS3fNTp9 Website suggests display line is East-West or do you mean spectators are facing south? https://www.midlandsairfestival.com/uploads/9/3/4/5/9345728/screenshot-2024-03...

Re: MCAS Miramar Airshow 27-29 September 2024
Just don't expect to be first in and you'll be fine. Base security will be super courteous, you'll stand in a queue, pass a few details and you're away, free to mingle with all the locals. The one thing I would highlight, when they play the Star Spangle Banner the place will come to a respectful sta...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Sorry, had to have a nibble on that comment. As you've said; variety is the spice of life and there's more to military aviation than just fast jets! RIAT has never, and in my eyes, should never just be about fast jets. I'd agree with Caper that a Turkish T-41 would be a remarkable participant, and ...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Or preferably they could bring something altogether better like [...] T-41 [...] Agreed, the Kaan is incredibly ugly and really just looks like a bad F-22 ripoff, I'd prefer the named aircraft in this list over the Kaan anyday! Never thought I'd see the day that a Cessna 172 would appear on the wis...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see an A-10 one last time too, if only to reminisce about seeing them come over the house at 100ft and strafing at Donna Nook - the good old days. I must just like ugly aircraft - not a big fan of Fat Amy though.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
The Kaan has just flown so yes, they're unlikely but this isn't a wish list for nothing. The Boramae has been flying since 2022 with 6 aircraft flying so more possible but are half way round the world. Good job this is a wish list. The only other thing I'd like from Turkey is to see the Turkish Star...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and plenty would be having an accident in their pants if the ugliest of them all - the A-10 - was to show up. Variety is the spice of life after all.
Would quite like to see a Boramae too but the Korean's aren't ongoing yet.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
With the Kaan now flying, Turkey ongoing and the 'Pushing the Boundaries' theme, it would be nice to see one in the flying display. Big wish, I know. Or preferably they could bring something altogether better like F-4s, F-5s, F-16s, T-38s, E-7, C-130, C-160, Gulfstream, CN235, KC-135, Citation, SF-...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
Spoiler Alert... Following on from the recent weekly update about USA participation and in light of the trend for less variety of aircraft, RIAT will announce in the coming weeks that between 12 - 2pm the will be a 'half time show' on the main runway. I understand this was a suggestion made by the A...

Would be great to see the Typhoon at dusk but will be late afternoon no doubt Quote from the email I was sent... "On Friday as part of the NIGHTFIRE show, the mighty RAF front line fighter, the Typhoon will put in a guest appearance with his full noise, full afterburner show. The Red Arrows an...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
It is a wish list... realistically a couple of Spang or Aviano F16's must be all we can hope for which, as the wild weasel version, is another F16 variant for the line.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
I think a few would like to see one or two Nellis Aggressor F16's in the line up, me included. Would be fantastic if they arrived on Friday and did a few missed approaches.

Re: Pacific Airshow 2024, Huntington Beach, California Oct 4-6th
I always fly into San Francisco, hire a car and drive. Flight is then only c.£500. It's a LONG flight for a weekend though and there's plenty to see and do over there. Weather is always el-scorchio when I go. I'm also far more respectful of the hosts then seems to be the sentiment above. It's their ...

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.
Another nice EU scheme! Yep, the Italians, Germans, French et al all seem to be able to turn on the style when it comes to tarting up their aircraft. The RAF on the other hand remove any form of historical link and slap a poorly designed sticker on a handful of aircraft to mark one of the most sign...

Re: South West USA 2024
Yes, it's a great airshow and highly recommended. The year I went there was a great variety of aircraft, some of which I wasn't expecting prior to the event (ghost aggressor full display for example). The sun isn't well placed for photography, but hey, it's on the beach. It's a very popular event. G...

... but the possibility of being given some info before most others is a major reason for making the effort to attend. Fair comment. It's not just the participant info though. Much of what's discussed is of interest to anyone who's more than a casual attendee of the event. There should be no reason...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread
I tend to agree. Not all FRIAT can travel to the meeting (especially those that work or live in the bleak North) and for those that do attend, they get the privilege of knowing before others, even if only for a few hours. Any embargo doesn't make sense. It makes no difference to the event if a few f...

Does it matter? Obviously yes to some or it wouldn't be a 'thing'. Does it matter to me? Well, its not going to change my life one way or another. As for Tommy's point about controlled flight into terrain. Comes back to the skill question. My take is that becoming an 'ace' became a 'thing' because ...
