Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

A couple of things: 1. The survey referenced in the Lancet report was carried out in Spain whilst Spain was still in lockdown so hardly the best time to measure the effects of herd immunity 2. The only alternative to herd immunity is to stay isolated until a vaccine is available which is not sustain...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

I would hope so; 800-1000 new cases a day of which 100-200 are dying would be very worrying indeed, Not including those who have had the virus and had no test or symptoms (if the antibody results are anything to go by) This isn’t an accurate ratio. Typically the recorded deaths are those who contra...

Re: COVID-19: Your Thoughts and it's effects on you.

That is not the estimate of how many have it who are not being tested. The government are only releasing the new cases found in hospitals, and not publishing the one's tested privately in the community at test centers for example. I.e. Deliberately hiding the facts. That is not what the article tha...

Re: Sunny South West

Is it just the light or is that a lighter shade of grey on the HC4’s? The RN lettering looks different too or maybe just me?

Edit- looking again I can see that the lettering has changed from white to black

Re: Culture Wars

Kaepernick independently protested not as part of the BLM movement although they were obviously very similar. He also didn’t have universal support amongst his teammates and players of other teams. Many did (both black and white) but many didn’t (also both black and white) The symbology of the knee ...

Re: Culture Wars

If it is the NFL you are referring to It was not quite the same a couple of years ago. The 49’ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (quickly followed by others) refused to stand for the national anthem which is played at the beginning of every game around the country. He instead chose to take a knee whic...

Re: Culture Wars

There is another element to this which again is nuanced and may not be known to many in the UK. The slogan ‘White Lives Matter’ has been deliberately used on social media and elsewhere by far right groups in the USA as a direct retaliation to the BLM message.

Re: Boris Force One?

The aircraft is in for its scheduled maintenance overhaul which will require a complete strip and repaint, the cost is a total of £900,000 all in, it has already been budgeted for and is inline with planned works. Do you have a source for that? I was having a quick google last night to try and find...

Not sure where you have got this from? Does it state that the government knew the higher figures but deliberately reported lower or have the higher figures been established only now and it’s assumed the government knew them at the time and didn’t tell us?
Big difference

You’re probably right. I thought £1.50 was particularly cheap even for Aldi!

Re: Boris Force One?

Apparently this vanity project - which is what it is since it apparently comes at Johnson's dislike of grey - is costing us £900,000. That's pretty disgusting given the enormous economic catastrophe taking place around the world, in a week when the government had to be dragged kicking and screaming...

Re: Edward Colston statue removal, your views.

I think everyone will agree the disgraceful behaviour of a bunch of drunk morons having pitched battles with the police and urinating next to a memorial of an officer fallen in the line of duty (all as a result of a few statues removed or covered up) puts all of this debate somewhat in the shade......

Re: President Trump

I was thinking this myself the other day that it feels like the US are used now to two term presidents, the last single term was Bush senior and before him Carter so most Americans probably don’t expect much to change and that the end of the first 4 years are almost a mid term election. This time, w...

By the way, the first African American to win an Oscar? Yep, Hattie McDaniel for her role in GWTW. That will be the same Hattie McDaniel who was excluded from attending the films premiere in Atlanta due to segregation. I’m not sure about the others but the campaigning in regards to GWTW has been go...

Re: Edward Colston statue removal, your views.

The use of the "N" word as a derogatory term is, of course, appalling. But why do black rappers and hip hop artists use it so much against other black people as a derogatory term and never get condemned for it? They do. Many in the black community see it as counterproductive. The argument is that t...
