Re: British MotoGP Silverstone

Excellent stuff. Very jealous! I used to have a Brands Hatch group media pass in the early 1990s and can imagine the opportunities.

Re: Twin-Seat Jets Displaying at Airshows

Unless I’ve miss understood the question, Harrier T10s were displayed and I recall a pair of French 2 seat Jaguars with Saints logos. Never seen a T10/T12 do a demo, they were performance limited compared to the GR5/7/9. The twin-stick T4 and T8 did do a few demos I think, especially the latter wit...

Re: The Red Arrows will be moving to.....

Andy has summed up the pros and cons well. My only comment is that the Wittering noise issue was Harrier specific (low, slow on final approach over Barnack) and the Reds won't paint the same footprint. The really sensible choice would be to reactivate Cottesmore's runway, shiny new hangar near the o...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

Given the best option is Wittering..... Absolutely agree. Red Arrows to Wittering is nailed-on IMHO. Really? - It's proximity to the A1 and a circuit full of Tutors may have a say on why it isn't. Only one of 6 potential homes being looked at...... Can you quote the six? I expect they are Leeming, ...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

Valley is a non-starter IMHO as the personnel live in Lincolnshire and a move to somewhere reasonably commutable will be a factor, not to mention the clash with MFTS training requirements in Wales. WHAT ? are you saying that military personal can decide where they live and work now. Are we really t...

Re: Scampton Airshow 2018

Very few of the active airfields left have a suitable benign area over which display rehearsals can be achieved. Leeming certainly doesn't meet the criteria with the village to the north and the A1 to the west. Ironically the best alternative for the Reds would have been Linton-on-Ouse. Wittering ha...

Re: First F35s to Marham 5th June

To be fair I expect the pilots are probably having a few days well-earned leave after being deployed to the States for a few months. Ground crews will also be learning their new toys. Once they get going I expect one or two will fly each day.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

The sewage treatment works is maintained by Anglian Water Services, which has decided to calll all its sewage works 'Water Recycling Centres'. It reminds me of the old Lenny Henry news sketch where nuclear radiation was to be renamed 'Magic moonbeams'. Obviously it doesn't smell as it's only recycli...

Re: No RAF Waddington airshow in 2015

RAF will put all of its eggs into the RIAT basket from now on, essentially outsourcing its air show commitments. But of course as soon as the show makes a loss, the plug will be pulled. Expect every effort will be made until 2018 and the RAF's centenary, but after that...

Re: End of an era

Officially Canberra was 55 years, VC10 joint second with the Chipmunk at 47 years although if you count the BBMF Chippies it's the winner at 64 years and counting. As they still serve as trainers I think it's valid - and I don't think the Spits, Hurris and Lanc do qualify!
