Stuka Mistel

Lockdown does strange things to people. During periods off work I messed around with some old model kits I have lying around and came up with this. There's even a back story for the what-iffers to mull over: So the story is that after the Allied operations in North Africa and the defeat of the Afrik...

Regional Fleet in Lockdown

Lockdown hit us hard in the airline industry and the local airport where I work became storage for more than twenty regional airliners, a third of the fleet. here are some images I took of aircraft around the airport. To prepare the aircraft for storage, we covered the windscreens and openings with ...

Some images taken at the Knights of the Sky exhibition at the Aviation heritage Centre at Omaka. Konzentrationslager Auschwitz

Considering Auschwitz was liberated 75 years ago recently, I dug out some old 35mm film pics I took during a visit 18 years ago. The familiar sign at the camp's entrance. Auschwitz was opened as a labour camp for the nearby petro-chemical plant at Dwory run by I G Farben and inmates walked three mil...

Hi Guys, a few from Paris 2019, which was a bit lacklustre on the public days, nonetheless it was intriguing enough, and hot. Re: Your favourite non aviation image from 2019

Just one image? Hm. This picture was taken on 5 June at Arromanches-les-Bains during the D-Day 75th commemorations. The ramp, where on the days after the invasion was extremely busy with vehicles driving onto the artificial harbour, was empty but for this one uniformed soldier, whom I managed to unk...

TA-05, the mixed propulsion C-47

Hi Guys, the Argentine Air Force modified a C-47 by fitting it with a Turbomeca Marbore jet engine in the tail, and subsequently equipped it with RATO bottles as well. The aircraft was used in Antarctica and survives today at the excellent Museo Nacional Aeronautica in Buenos Aires. Here are a few i...

Hi, images from the Italian military aviation museum on the shore of Lake Bracchiano, north of Rome. Although in the region of the village of Vigna di Valle, it is located on the lake shore and is equidistant in the opposite direction to the town of Bracchiano. This site is quite historic and was on...

Re: Spotting or museums near Rome

I went to Vigna di Valle this summer and followed the widely known means of getting there and figured out it could be done much faster! I caught a train from San Pietro to Vigna di Valle, station, then had to wait because no taxi would take me to the museum! I eventually got there as the guy running...

Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt

Hi Guys, some images from the Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt. Given the ragged nature of some of the airframes, I have fiddled with colour and exposure for effect, which might not be to everyone's tastes. A former Nazi Luftwaffe airfield opening in 1938, post-war the Soviet Air Force took over in 1950 an...

Hi Guys, some pics from the excellent Musee de L'Air.
