Re: Armed Forces day

Scarborough should have the RAF Falcons parachute display team, the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster and the Typhoon display. Weather permitting, of course! Edit: Just in case anyone was thinking of coming by train, there's a 24 hour strike that day cal...

Re: Battle of Britain Airshow 2020 - 18th-20th September.

The racecourse have now been told to stop people attending from Thursday onwards. Yes, but by the director of Public Health for Doncaster following pressure from the risk averse Local Authority, not because of any new national restrictions. Dragging the thread back on topic; I suppose the same thin...

Re: Battle of Britain Airshow 2020 - 18th-20th September.

So what about all those poor people that are there today then that are going to be infecting each other? Surely they should have cancelled today's meeting too as the same infection rates will still apply whatever the day of the week surely? From watching the TV coverage from Doncaster this afternoo...

Re: UKAR Forum upgrade

The only way that we can get the board to work the way it used to; only showing threads that have been updated, is by marking all read, logging out then logging back in on the next visit. I suppose I'll get used to it but that bit of the upgrade seems a bit of a step backward as far as ease of use i...

Re: Slide scanner advice

Do you have a decent macro capable digital camera? If the answer is yes then you might like to try using that before spending money on a scanner. All you need is a suitable stand to hold the camera and a light source; I used a tablet set to display a plain white screen. If you use a tablet or mobile...

Re: UKAR Forum upgrade

I'm finding that the forum isn't correctly registering my visits so, at the top right it tells me that my last visit was 28th April when it was actually earlier today. Also, the 'Mark forums read' button doesn't so that when I got to 'New posts' I see posts going back to 28th April. I've cleared coo...

Re: Blurry shots?

This looks very much like motion blur to me. Looking at IMG_3255, the Typhoon, in the image, the port navigation light appears to be stretched horizontally. If it were any other kind of blur, I'd expect stretching in all directions. Likewise IMG_0624, the Gripen, which shows the same though not to t...

Re: Recovering deleted Photo on SD Card-Help!

Been there, had that problem... After trying various recovery softwares and getting corrupt results I eventually had better results (but not perfect) with Recuva (just the free version). That was from a corrupt 2TB hard drive which took 17 hours to scan and recover! https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva S...

Re: Prints from negatives...

Funny you should ask, I was watching this YouTube last night and absolutely cringing at how he handled the negatives. It may give you an idea on how to scan colour negatives yourself. m Dear me... Talk about making things hard. Why all that messing about getting the colours right? Just use white ba...

Re: Prints from negatives...

would I need to use a light box or do I simply need to take an image of the negative against a light background? You will need a light box of some kind. I used a 7 inch tablet. I set it up with a notepad app showing a blank white page. If you try that you must provide a good separation between the ...

Re: Prints from negatives...

If you have a digital camera with a macro facility, you can just photograph the negatives then use your preferred editing software to invert them to produce a positive image. I spent quite a lot of time last winter doing just that with both monochrome and colour negatives and was well pleased with t...
