Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Nice, but have you got a photo of his caravan at Duxford painted in the same scheme as the black T-33?

Definitely WJ223 and with stripes. I have the photo I mentioned with the four pilots standing in front of it, but I have no idea how to post it on here - sorry.

Quite right, it should be 'Smoo' Ellis's aircraft.

Re: Lt. 'Hoagy' Carmichael Sea Fury WJ232/114

'Hoagy' was indeed flying WJ232/114 when his flight had the encounter with the MiG as I confirmed when I went through his log book. Having also gone through his photo album there was no photo of that aircraft, although there was a close-up of him standing on the wing root as he was climbing down aft...

Very nice, looks really good. I assume the rather odd looking camouflage colours are down to your camera.

Sorry, can't help. Not even 'Hoagy' had a photo of it and the group of pilots involved in the MiG victory posed in front of WJ223/108 after landing.

Very sad. It was just a few months ago that I interviewed him for my next books, for which he has provided wonderful material. He will be greatly missed.

Two more from me.
The HP.115 on its way to Farnborough escorted by Bedford's all blue Meteor T.7.
Hearing the distant droning of something way up high on Green One, which revealed itself as a contrailing B-36 - the only one I ever saw fly. You could hear it coming for miles, even at that height.

Ouch! Well I simply said "u]for me[/u] the golden era was earlier. In my view, which I assume I am allowed, it is not just about colour schemes, it is also about the charisma of some aircraft types and the general scene at the time. In the '60s there was not the huge variety of types, etc., tha...

Re: Aircraft seen randomly at unexpected but most welcome ti

Interesting thread; another one from me. Sitting at home, hearing the sound of multiple big pistons approaching, dashing out into the garden to see, passing directly overhead at about 1,000 feet, a B-25 with five Mosquitoes strung out behind it in loose formation. They were on their way back into Bo...

Driving through the Scottish Highlands on the way to Leuchars for Battle of Britain Day in 1967, a USAF Helio U-10 floatplane took-off from a loch we were passing.

Superb job on the Monospar which I first saw and photographed at Panshanger in 1963. Great to see it back in one piece and being so well looked after.

Excellent shots, many thanks. Definitely suggest a slower shutter speed for propeller driven aircraft and helicopters though, if I may.

Re: 737 Max woes

There are fundamental aerodynamic flaws with the 737 MAX. The relaxion of certification rules which allowed Boeing designers to do their own safety analysis of their designs and the company to then self-certify much of the aircraft, is what is at the bottom of all this.

I'm with Adrian, the F-111 days were great but there was so much more to Upper Heyford than that. My first visit was in 1963 in the fantastic B-47/KC-97 era.
