Re: Spitfire Diamond Jubilee - Duxford 1996

Some absolute gems there - thanks for posting! The original Plane Sailing Catalina, the Kingcobra, Black 6, my favourite Gladiator scheme, and I think that looks like Mark Hanna in '434. I seem to remember it being a great day! It was also the first air display I persuaded my then fiancé to attend -...

Re: Musée de l'Air

Looks great! Never been. Great to have the two Concordes preserved together.

What delicious gems lurk in the Pioneer Hall? Hopefully they will get that sorted soon.

Flt Lt John Cruickshank VC

Looks like John Cruickshank, the last surviving WW2 Victoria Cross holder, turns 100 this Wednesday (20th May). He flew in Plane Sailing's Catalina from Leuchers in July 2016, and seemed in good form then. Anyone have any news of him - and should we be marking the significant birthday of this remark...

Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Duxman - have just realised that the second shot pf 'TBG must have been taken from the Tower roof - so the aircraft was ***** close!

Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Wonderful images! Incredible to think that the Fortress has been flying from Duxford for 45 years. What an achievement.

Great too to see the provenance of these photos - I'm assuming that's the Pete Loveday who was one of the first IWM employees at Duxford?

Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Great to see that Comet in the air! In my teens, I used to man the DAS airliners on Saturdays. For a while, we opened the Comet 2R as well - which was cool! It smelt magnificent inside, as you'd expect; but for me, the coolest part were the windows. The aircraft was on the production line for BOAC w...

Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Lovely sunny day at Dux today but a brisk wind. A few "spam cans" on the move, but also the lovely Zlin Z.126 D-EYGL.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020

Those images of 'GJG are tremendous! I've heard horror stories of the state she was in on arrival. Thank goodness she made it in one piece! The transformation into what for me is still the finest Rapide around is an epic story of incredible dedication. Looking elsewhere in the photos is fascinating ...

I too was taken aback by the Monospar - had no idea the team had made so much progress! Great work!

So that's the first Buchon I remember seeing! Duxford in the early 80's I think. Robs Lamplough / British Aerial Museum.

David - I've read accounts which say that the aircraft still bears scars from this flight - is that true? - Any chance of a pic?!

There is (or used to be) a little plaque in the cockpit commemorating Taffy's little adventure.
