Re: British Phantom Aviation Group (Official Topic)
I've always thought it would be cool to have a collection of F4 or Lightning fins painted up in the various squadron schemes.. or failing that, full size versions painted on a hangar wall, inside or outside.

Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July at Sywell (Merged)
The clever thing about Bicester is bringing in all of the support services and skills that exist around the industry onto one site (nothing like Duxford), this must be great for all involved. Plus they also focus on education and apprenticeships. Looking at theior website, they are clearly on an up...

Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July at Sywell (Merged)
The business model for Bicester seems to be working well and I often wonder if a similar model could be used re classic aviation (and cars?). Classic operators pay private rates at locations such as Goodwood, Biggin Hill and North Weald. One wonders if they would pay the same rates but be based som...

I think you thinking of RAF Bicester, which was sold by MOD to a group that has created Bicester Heritage, which is predominately now housing vintage car companies involved in restoration and storage etc. They've restored at lot of the buildings though. Ah yes, that's the one I was thinking of. Goo...

Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July at Sywell (Merged)
Virtually none left now, and none left that have been in constant aviation use that the local NIMBYS wouldn't make it impossible to activate as an airfield again. Shame all the warbird operators didn't get together and buy RAF Bicester when MOD put it up for sale years ago, as it would have been pe...

Maybe time for TFC to take over an old disused WWII airfield... & chose a different date.

Re: A-W Meteor NF.14 WS788 Restoration Project
The pulley itself has to come out for the cables to run through, so I decided it may as well sit in some degreaser to get rid of the 54 year old grease incumbent within the unit! https://i.postimg.cc/02v9vj2F/FB-IMG-1602502786784.jpg Was working on an aircraft that needed 28 of those. Found 29 of t...

Re: Bit and piece identification help
Just a word of warning. That ammunition looks to be live so be careful with it, the likelyhood of it going off is little but still there, the information is out there about how to deactivate them but its not adviseable by anymeans. For the time being, i would keep them away from sunlight and wrappe...

Re: What has The Fighter Collection had?
Pretty sure there was SeaFury prior to 11/91 because I left the UK in June of that year & there was one in the hangar. I seem to remember it was a trade for restoring a Tempest for the RAF museum (which was also in the hangar at that time).

Night VFR is a lot more common in the USofA. I'm not saying it's a great idea, but if the weather was VMC and they wanted to get home... They were already home, and from what I can gather they had just taken off from Stockton......? The aircraft is based at nearby Stockton airport, and they had arr...

As I say, the IFF aerial, or as I called it on the facebook page the "Dwarf Poker 9000 attachment", has received a nice soft cover just in case. Apparently Bruce Gordon found out the viciousness of these aerials the hard way, and most sportingly warned me....!! The Pink Pool Noodle upgrade?

Scanners themselves are perfectly legal in the UK it is also perfectly legal to use a scanner. It is however illegal to use them for anything other than listening to licensed broadcasts, amateur/citizens band transmissions or weather/navigation transmissions. It is also illegal to tell anyone anyth...

If you call up the local bearing shop for new ones be sure to state they are for a "farm trailer". I've found that as soon as you mention aircraft they have a tendency to hang up.

Just a little, subtle reminder; big day tomorrow for YAM, as the doors reopen to visitors... https://yorkshireairmuseum.org/plan-your-visit/visitor-information/ It's a tad far, I shall console myself with a trip to Estrella on Thursday. It doesn't hurt that there are also 100+ wineries, 10 distille...

Very much a ballpark figure based on our last two trips to the USA, but we spent approx £1100 per week for two people (excluding flights, but including car hire, petrol, motels, food, attractions & shopping). To give a bit more detail : 2018 - Los Angeles, San Diego & Planes of Fame Airshow...

My advice would be to NOT drive a vehicle that is identified as a rental. They used to do this in Florida until it became apparent the tourists were being targeted as they were unlikely to be armed. That green contraption sticks out like a bulldogs balls.

Looking at the corrosion issues, someone needs to send you a case of AeroKroil. Then you can just spray everything & walk away for a week while it does it's job

With everything grounded & gas prices at the current low, it might be time to fill a few 55gal drums with 100LL...It's down to near $3/gal in places.
