Re: RIAT 2019 - Issues

Sorry if you think that was insulting people but just because people are volunteering does not justify poor service . (are the security staff volunteers?) Back to the point re lowering the costs to a mimimum. Sometimes, you have to invest in professionals to get a profesional quality of service. I ...

Re: RIAT 2019

A couple of points/questions: I couldn't find the usual stands selling the aircraft checklist. Was one produced or is it somewhere online? I have searched but nothing - or at least not yet. I tried to get one at half past eight from the Sales Stand at the Red Entrance only to be told that they'd al...

Re: RNHF funding to be cut

I recall reading somewhere (perhaps the BBMF 60th Anniversary magazine?) that the 3 main military branches all get a some funding for their heritage, and they can choose one place for the funding to go to. The Royal Navy chose HMS Victory in Portsmouth, the Army chose the Tank Museum in Bovington a...

Re: Northolt Night Photoshoot XXIV Thursday 22nd March 2018

A suggestion was made at the planning meeting last week that we should consider producing a limited edition Northolt Night Photoshoot patch. Is there a ready market for such a thing amongst our supporters? Yes, although I would suggest an RBF Tag/Key Fob - far easier to attach to the camera bag ! A...

Re: Northolt Night Photoshoot XXIII Thursday 19th October 20

Many thanks to Phil and the team for arranging another excellent evening and compiling a very interesting and different collection of subjects; the addition of the RAFA stand was an excellent idea and hopefully they'll be able to attend future Nightshoots. If it was possible to improve one thing I a...

The show serves a valuable purpose: it keeps Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph readers occupied while they are waiting for their lunch :)

Lynx at Low Level Over Essex

Just had the pleasure of seeing a Naval Lynx heading East towards Southend Airport near South Woodham Ferrers: not sure if it was a Fleet Air Arm machine stretching its legs before their retirement or a European machine heading home?

I wonder if it was one of the two that I saw in Kent crossing the M20 this afternoon - an interesting change from the Chinooks that we normally see in these parts.

Where to Buy World War Two Aircraft Recognition Models ?

Trying to help a colleague find a slightly left of field Christmas present for her husband.

Other than "the well known on-line auction site" can anyone recommend any reliable on-line sellers of genuine Royal Air Force Second World War aircraft recognition models?

Many thanks

They're not that easy to find (which may say something about how good they are) but, as an alternative to upgrading, how about trying to find a good pre-owned D300S ?

I'm just going to echo what everyone else has said and mark this down as the most enjoyable and best attended Photoshoot that I've been to. As always, thanks to Phil and his team at Northolt, the RAF Regiment Band * who provided some very interesting and different subjects and also the various opera...

Re: Reds at Dunmail

Excellent set, number 7 is probably the pick of the bunch. One question: it looks like the back seater in the number 4 Hawk in the last two pictures of Gypo (?) formation is wearing a red flying suit which would suggest that he is one of the display pilots? It might be the unit's boss - Wing Comman...

Parking via the red route is taking ages. I got in the queue at 0610 and wasn't parked until 0710. The car park is looking pretty full. I think everyone has had the same idea this morning! I wonder if it is significant that they have removed the coned off channel which streamed two lanes of traffic...

Teleconverter for Nikon AF-S 300mm F4D IF-ED ?

I'm thinking about investing in a teleconverter to give my Nikon AF-S 300mm F4D IF-ED lens some more reach.

My thoughts are that Nikon's TC-17E II AF-S might be suitable: has anyone got any good or bad experiences with this combination or can they offer any alternative suggestions?

Many thanks

Number 4 has a very evocative "past/present" feel to it.

Hopefully if BAe can repair the cracks, where ever they might be, they might also be able to find a black radome to finish it off :) ?

Re: RAF Coningsby Nightshoot 2016

An excellent set of pictures - what's noticeable is the black background which contrasts with the red/orange hue in the all the pictures from last week's Northolt Nightshoot: a very clear demonstration of the effect of light pollution.

HH-60 Pavehawk Over Kent - 25 February

Heading east over the M20 on Thursday afternoon using the same flightpath as the more frequently seen RAF Chinooks, an HH-60 Pavehawk - presumably one of the Lakenheath residents?
