Re: Interesting Internet (Historic Aviation)
Mosquito that was destined for the UK with the Mosquito pathfinder trust flies, such a shame the group folded so close to the aircrafts completion Hardly so close to completion. It only got completed so quickly, because the new owners have the considerable funds to enable Avspecs to have worked ful...

Re: Current aircraft being restored to flight
That’s one for the future. The long, long term future. You speak of it as if it is currently being built. The harsh reality is that they have not started to build a single part yet and are still faffing about, at huge expense, re-creating jigs that already exist, and are proven, in New Zealand. It ...

Re: Sywell Airshow 2024
There are no Hunters active on the continent any more AFAIK Yeah, looks like the Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation stopped displaying in 2022. That's because the aircraft was sold to one of the military contract companies in North America that fly the Hunter. Such a shame, as that airframe made the be...

"Phantom Launch"; signed by Robert Taylor - 376/850 - has a proud place on my den wall It was a Phantom print that was the first Robert Taylor print I bought back in about 1983 or 4 from the Military Gallery. It's a smallish one, entitled 'Last Phantom' depicting the final ever landing of...

Re: Robert Taylor RIP
Sad.
It's almost 40 years since I bought my first Robert Taylor print, and I think he was in his early 40's back in the early 80's so he must have been close to or over 80.
For me still the best aviation and marine artist of the past half a century.

Re: Women viewed as ‘property’ in Red Arrows amid culture of male entitlement, RAF admits
Aside from the predictable closing of Ranks for damage limitation, there is a potential major issue of hierarchy whereby the Policy-makers at the top are all of the pre-Woke generation. If the Leadership & Standards came down from the very top in modern guise, these issues could've possibly bee...

Re: Women viewed as ‘property’ in Red Arrows amid culture of male entitlement, RAF admits
Would disbanding the team make the problem for the RAF as a whole go away or just spread those individuals with those attitudes widely around other squadrons and posts to continue doing what they do wherever they can get away with it? Be harder to get away with it elsewhere in the 'normal' RAF. A l...

Re: Your Favourite UK Airshow Venue
Another vote for Old Warden of the current active venues (not that I've been to one for a few years now) Of past venues, I always likes BoB At Home at RAF Abingdon, as sun was behind you, as was Alconbury, which was always like a Mildenhall-lite as well. But, top of the tree was RAF Binbrook and ma...

Re: Leuchars 1996 Battle of Britain show
Nice bit of nostalgia. I only ever managed to get up to a Leuchars BoB Show from London just the once, back in 1990 for the last flight of Black Mike. Sad to think that, over 30 years later, and all four of the airfields that hosted those last remaining RAF Battle of Britain At Home Day shows are al...

I’m sorry butI loved Legends at Duxford but it seems to have lost something at Leeds. Not least when the weather clags up there is nothing to do trade stands be very poor.it lacked atmosphere and was simply easy to get in because it wasn’t that big. I attended both days this year as I was so excite...

Nice pictures! Looks in pretty good nick! Reminds me of when the airport has it open day for the airshow and the Vulcan would taxi about. Thanks. She does look great, especially compared to how she was back during those open days in that very dark camo. I have some photos from the twilight run earl...

Re: Russian airliner forced to land in corn field
Yes. TACA 110, a Boeing 737 landed on a levee near New Orleans after a double engine flame-out. It took-off from a adjacent road after an engine change. It probably needed more work than the A320. The Twitter feed said that they might be waiting on the field to freeze before attempting a take-off. ...

They'll be leaving it there until end of Jan at least if that's the case.....and hoping that it doesn't sink into the mud during the wet season due to start anytime now.

Re: Russian airliner forced to land in corn field
Apparently they are going to fly the aircraft out of the field. Well, they say they are going to attempt to...... Ballsy crew that try it......but, in Russia, choice is not always something people have the option of. Given the time of year, the ground would have been backed hard by the summer sun, ...

Re: Roger Hayes Memorial Flypast, Kemble, 16 Sept 2023
This has a personal connection with me, as I knew Roger quite well back in the 70's, as my Dad was a serving Met.Police officer and we lived quite close to Denham Aerodrome where the Met Police Flying Club were based, which Roger was a leading member of, so Dad took me to Denham for Club events as o...

Interesting development, given that Gripen Jets are not part of any 'Free Package' I'm aware of? I think this is more about further into the future than the current 'we need x, y & z NOW' Ukraine have a serious aviation player in Antonov, so maybe a future licence build from Saab is some...

Re: Aviation Procurement: Winging it? House of Commons report
“Cutbacks” in principle are fine in my book. Of course we don’t need an armed forces the size we had during the Cold War - that would be patently ridiculous. Even more-so the proportionate size of WWII standards. What is not fine is cynical and poorly thought cost-cutting, inefficiency, and procras...

Re: Aviation Procurement: Winging it? House of Commons report
It’s baffling to me that people have ever, and in particular still do, see the Tories as a pro-defence party, or the party of defence. Our armed forces are at their lowest ebb. No post war political party in power has done anything but continually cut back on defence, decade by decade. The Navy, Ar...

Re: Invasion of Ukraine (Aviation) Discussion
Like I said. I’ve not looked into it in any great depth, but I’ve never seen the “200 built” before. I thought it was 110/120ish (pre-war). I also presume that the 200 or so built includes the numbers built for export, and if so, there's maybe 40 odd from that 200 odd to be subtracted? Whatever the...
