Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Indeed the Serbian C295 is definitely a highlight. It’s a first for RIAT, and I think the first Serbian Air Force aircraft to the UK?

(Counting their Falcon and ERJ as government with civilian reg).

Nice update... but of all the Serbian aircraft they could have sent its the CASA that ends up on the list!

Just glad I got to see all those MiGs back in the 90s!
Well, to be realistic the C295W was the only one you could expect.
Although a Mig or Orao would have been pretty nice too.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Maybe next year will be better. It can’t get much worse :) At least another 8 weeks worth of updates to go, lots more yet to be added................... I was just talking about the French participation. For the other participants RIAT is shaping up to have quite a nice list of participants.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

For me I don’t care if the French come to RIAT or not, plenty events in France where I’ll see lots of them (100 aircraft/helicopters around Paris July 14th) and many at Istres.

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

No admission, so you save lots of money compared to RIAT’s crazy entry fees (not even mentioning FRIAT…) Do we swim there or maybe row one of those dinghies back you find for free on the South coast? Still a long way to Istres though! Dinghies shouldn’t be a problem with the illegal crossings from ...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

The French have a lot of events this year. Olympics, Quattorze Julliet, various D-Day celebrations, the 90 years of AdlA celebrations at various locations. This year RIAT is not too high on their priorities. Be happy they send a Mirage. And if you want to see French assets, go to Paris or Istres, an...

Re: Beja Portuguese AF show 1-2 June

Beja also hosts Hot Blade and Real Thaw exercise at the week before and after the show. So that might bring in some extra visitors (and might be the reason Romanian F-16’s and LN Eagles are present).

Well we all knew it was gonna happen, people Whining about the Phantom not flying a display on Facebook as if they should expect it!
That’s just pathetic. It may be one of the very last times to see a Phantom in the UK. Even when it’s “only” static, people should really appreciate them.

Re: RIAT 2024 wishlist.

The Kaan and Boramae are still in their early development phase, so they are probably busy doing more important things than attending an airshow.
For Turkey I would rather love to see an F-4E, as they are on their way to the exit. But F-16 more probable.

As mentioned in a different thread, it would be nice if RIAT can entice that rather nice looking Albatross that visited the Solent the other day. Also, I see the Italians have painted up an AMX in preparation of its retirement, perhaps that could make it across here ? The AMX retirement ceremony wa...

Re: RIAT 2024 - discuss most things thread

Is one of the German Tonkas going to be the specially painted 50th Anniv jet? The mentioned Tornados are from TLG51 (Tiger) and WTD61 (Test). The 50 anniversary Tornado is with TLG 33. The only active WTD61 IDS I can find is the 98+59, not sure if you want to count this as special livery but I pers...

Wouldn't be surprised to see a Ukrainian F16 sneaking on to the end of the line as near as it can get to any NATO line up to make a political statement.
I think Ukraine has other priorities than making a political statement at an airshow

Don't know if i've read this correctly but someone on FC states 4 Dutch F-16's for static.

A poster that's been pretty bang on the money with their previous record/links to the Dutch Air Force.
That poster works at the last F-16 squadron, so he knows what he’s talking about.

That’s why I call it an improvement. Before the Tag der Bundeswehr there was almost nothing to be seen flying.
